Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED V... Overview
All-in-one zoom spans wide-angle to telephoto focal lengths and is designed for Nikon F-mount DX-format cameras, where it provides a 27-157.5mm equivalent range.
One aspherical element is used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
One extra-low dispersion element greatly reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design is also used, where only the internal lens groups are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
VR II (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by 3.5 stops to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Was a good all-around lens to leave the house with when I didn't want to carry other lenses. Mounting ring broke and is now useless. Why would they make that critical piece plastic?

question
tamron 16-300 vs nikon 18-105 what is differents which one produce sharp images ?
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR would be the sharper of the two lenses. WHile they have similar performance in most all other regards, the Nikon lens is the brighter of the two lenses, and is the sharper of the two lenses. Distortion, vignetting, and chromatic aberration performance of both lenses are almost identical.

question
Would this be compatible with Nikon D610?
Technically, you could use the Nikon AF-S 18-105mm lens on the D610, but there will be limitation using a DX lens on a FX (full frame) camera. . The image circle of a DX lens will not completely cover a full frame sensor. So the D610 will automatically crop down into DX mode when using DX lenses. For the D610, you would be far better off going with one of the full frame lenses on the following link:http://bhpho.to/1AR85Xk

question
I have this Nikkor 18-105 zoom lens (6 years old) on a D90. It worked perfectly until one day on auto-focus it instantly drained the battery and the lens overheated. With a second battery the same thing happened. I suspect that the lens is shorting out but i am afraid to put a new lens on the camera in case it is the camera causing the problem. After reading some of the horror stories of paying for a lens repair, it makes more sense to buy a new lens. Has anyone had this experience?
You may want to contact Nikon directly for assistance with your inquiry. http://bit.ly/1Rjou21
