Vanguard BA-185 overview

  • 1Description

The Vanguard BA-185 Binocular Tripod Adapter steadies your binocular for clear, relaxed, hands-free viewing without vibration. It works with any binocular that has a standard 1/4"-20 threaded adapter socket, and its thin profile is especially useful with roof prism models as it will allow you to set the binocular to the minimum interpupillary distance without interference. It should be noted that binoculars with 50mm objectives and larger may experience an obstruction. For mounting on tripods, heads, monopods, window mounts, and other support systems the adapter has a standard 1/4"-20 mount.

    Vanguard BA-185 reviews

BA-185 Binocular Tripod Adapter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The one to get. If you purchase Vanguard Endeavor binocs and plan to use them on a tripod, this item is the one to get. The mount base is drilled and tapped 1/4-20 to receive a standard tripod mounting screw, and the tapered body shape fits between the binocular tubes without interference. The wide paddle bolt is easy to screw into the 1/4-20 binocular socket, and it projects out far enough from the body of the binocular to avoid finger entanglement, while not intruding into the optical image. Obvious thought and care went into the design of this item, and it does the job.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from lightweight Height about 8cm, lightweight aluminum with a telescoping screw head. The screw threads protrude 5mm, but about 1mm of that is taken by a rubber gasket; I don't think more than three threads of the screw will actually enter the binocular. The base is 4mm thick with a smooth bottom (no rubber). The tapped hole has a slight relief (almost a counter-sink) which helps in starting the threads of whatever shoe you attach, but again only leaves about 3 threads of bite doing the work. The screw head design is useful: it allows hand tightening from the end using your fingertips on narrow, smaller binoculars which may not have enough spacing at the hinge for a knurled knob. It telescopes forward about 12mm, presumably for shorter fingers or longer binoculars. One minor annoyance is that when you un-telescope it, it doesn't stay. It just falls back out to its lengthened position which, in my case, is longer than the binocular. This is a light-weight, light-duty item. I would not recommend it for anything heavy or particularly valuable, but for my small 8x42 binoculars, it works well enough. That said, I bought this and another inexpensive brand and chose the other brand over this one for actual use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST THING EVER ALL TRIPOD ADAPTERS should be made like this............ The tightening KNOB is the best thing ever.........all screw driver head tightening knobs are LAME and should be discontinued by the entire industry..........actually,......they should be banned. It won't fit all Binos though .........VANGUARD needs to make Narrower/Smaller version that won't Rub on the armor of all great roofprism binos out there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Bought this for my Olympus Magellan roof-prism binoculars and some night time star gazing with a tripod. This adapter delivers as promised, fitting perfectly. Easy to adjust with the extended screw piece. Solid aluminum.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the right fit for some binoculars I bought the Vangaurd Endeavor Ed 1045 10.5x45 Binoculars. The front screw that come out for the mount is only about a 1/4 of an inch from the front of the binoculars. Basically this whole contraption extends out in front of your glass. I can see who this would work better for binoculars with the screw attachment point near the middle of the unit. Also, the cylindrical housing or sheath for the screw is too wide for the rubber coating that's around the binoculars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must for Vanguard Binoculars If you own a pair of Vanguard binoculars and you plan to observe something for more than 5-10 minutes, then this tripod adapter is a no brainer. Highly recommend and easy to install on your existing tripod. Money worth spent and highly recommend to Vanguard binocular users.
