Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 overview

  • 1Description

The Tamron SP AF10-24mm f/3.5 -4.5 Di II is an ultra wide-angle zoom lens. Di II means that is designed for exclusive use on digital SLR cameras with smaller-size imagers (APS-C/DX). Boasting a focal length range of 10 - 24mm, (the 35mm equivalent of 16mm to 37mm) this lens has a varied range of applications for creating dramatic images as it features both ultra-wide and semi-wide angle settings.

The close focusing capability of this lens enables image capture with an exaggerated perspective at the 10mm ultra wide-angle end or with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5 at the 24mm semi-wide-angle. It has Micro Motor to ensure precise and smooth auto focusing.

Note: Tamron SP AF10-24mm f/3.5 -4.5 Di II is not designed for conventional cameras or digital cameras with image sensors larger than 24mm x 16mm

Captures Ideal Range of Focal Lengths With D-SLRs
Since the size of 35mm film format is larger than the image sensor generally used in D-SLRs, a digital camera captures a narrower angle of view than a 35mm film camera even at the same focal length settings. This lens, made exclusively for digital SLR cameras, provides ideal focal lengths to cover the range desired by DSLR shooters.
Fits Smaller-Size Imagers
This lens is designed so the size of the lens' image circle matches that of smaller-size image sensors. In the compact design, it is almost comparable to a lens offering the same angles of view in 35mm film format. 1
Aspherical Lens Elements
The optical system within this zoom lens uses three large-aperture glass-molded aspherical lenses, as well as three hybrid aspherical lenses, which minimize spherical aberrations, coma, and distortion.
Minimum Focusing Distance Across Zoom Range
The close focusing capability of this lens enables the capturing images with an exaggerated perspective at the 10mm ultra wide-angle end or shoot with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5 at the 24mm semi-wide-angle setting with the freedom to create close-ups at the minimum focusing distance of 0.24m throughout the zoom range.

    Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 reviews

SP AF 10-24mm f / 3.5-4.5 DI II Zoom Lens For Nikon DSLR Cameras is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 158.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low Distortion Lens This is an update for my past review. After shooting several thousand shots with this lens in various situations/conditions, and doing more research on it I found this lens has some of the lowest barrel distortion (2.0 percent) compared to other wide angle zooms. Also, the TTL metering is accurate in all exposure modes (Point, Matrix, Wide, Auto). And the focus ring concerns I had are now dismissed. I accidently turned it a few times while in AF mode, and no issues. Thus, I give this lens a 5 star.As for the bad: the images are soft on the wide 10mm side up to 14mm, at f/3.5 to f/5. But I fix post processing with singe file HDR. This is my favorite most used lens. 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Lens! Having grown tired of the standard 18mm width, I had to break out. I was missing way too much. I really weighed the Sigma 10-20 against this Tamron and I am so glad I went Tamron 10-24. It is like falling in love with photography all over again. The hard part is taking it off and using a normal lens from time to time. Now I know what I have been missing in my quest for creative photography. Bang for the buck, this lens is clean, responsive and true! Not to mention, just plain fun. Check the pricing on the Big Names for this lens, for $$I have no cons to give you. I love it. Just watch where that sun is... it will flare by its nature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT AND THE PRICE IS RIGHT I was very happy with the lens right out the box - the grip on the lens gives it a rugged feel, and it is compact and lightweight. I bought it to use for some interior architecture assignments with my Nikon D300. Just trying the lens out i immediately loved the sharpness and the light quality it delivered. A nice surprise was that i could get very close to subject as the minimum focus distance was well, minimum 0.8 ft i think, which makes it a good lens for fun close-up/wide angle effects. It's an affordable professional quality lens, and because it's aspherical there's no second guessing on exposure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fills a niche I have been looking for a lens that would expand my wide-angle capabilities and this one was just what I needed. My wife and I have been taking cruise vacations and my 18-55mm Nikkor just wasn't wide enough for those interior shots of all the museums, etc that we would go into but this lens with it's 106 degree coverage gives me the ability to get the detail I need in the tight spaces and has enough sharpness to work in available light. This was a gift for my birthday but in no way influenced my review of the product - I have been selling and using 35mm equipment for over 30 years and would never allow anything to influence me other than the actual product that I was evaluating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm glad I purchased this lens I've been wanting a wide angle zoom lens for quite awhile now. I have been taking photographs since returning home from Vietnam in 1970 and have even had the good fortune of getting published in calendars, magazines and greeting cards. I wanted to purchase the Nikon equivalent of this lens but the cost difference made me go with the Tamron 10-24mm and I was at first skeptical but I did go on the internet and research this lens prior to my purchase. It was rated fairly high by others and I'm glad to report that it has lived up to the reviews. I am very pleased with the lens and feel that it will be everything I was hoping it to be. Nice results straight out of the box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best budget Landscape Lens I've been using this lens for almost a year now. Initially I was disappointed with how much it stretched subjects at on the corners of shots. I've come a long way since then and have learned to shoot consistently sharp landscape photos with a tripod. This lens feels a little cheaply made but It has survived multiple mountain climbs, fishing trips and even the alaskan wilderness. I have recommended this to 3 of my friends who all have also purchased it. They all love the wide angle views they get and none have had issues so far. I will say however that this lens is capable of taking some horrible out of focus photos if you spray and pray. It requires some degree of shot discipline to get what you want out of it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very happy with this lens! I use this lens for everything right now. The 10mm is a nice ultra wide angle and having the ability to go all the way up to 24 on this little lens is a great benefit. On a DX sized sensor that makes it a nice 36mm lens which is a nice plus. Because of that I can use for more subjects than what my other option was (sigma 10-20). Plus the 3.5-4.5 is alot better than Sigma's F-stops. The only thing I don't like about the lens is that i do get a but of vignette at 10mm when i have to stack some filters on the end. Overall, this lens is GREAT.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great lens i've been using this lens for a few weeks now, and have been very pleased with it. I've used it to shoot landscapes and architecture mostly, but it's going to be a regular in my bag for general shooting. I've noticed little or no distortion (even at 10mm), the colors seem bright and accurate, and it focuses quickly, even in low light. I'm even able to put a standard filter on, and it does not show up in the frame. My one complaint would be with the lens hood; it is too wide to leave on the lens all the time unless you have an oversized compartment in your bag. I'm forced to stow it in a separate slot of my bag, so it rarely gets used. Overall, the lens feels solid, with large, rubber focus and zoom rings. I did a lot of research looking for a good quality, inexpensive wide-angle lens. I looked and Sigma, Tokina, and Nikkor, to name a few. This is the one that best fit my needs.
