This is an Impact Digital Flash Umbrella Mount Kit. It includes 2- Impact 32" White umbrellas with removable black backing. Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. A white umbrella without a black backing may also be used as a makeshift softbox, although the use of the light will not be as efficient as with a light box.

Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush. Each umbrella is perfect for a 1 person head shot, or 3x4 ft product setup.

Each of the two Impact brand umbrella brackets fit on top of almost any light stand, has different size stud adapters for various grip clamps, includes a cold shoe mount for your shoe-mount flash. It swivels, tilts, locks into place, and accepts almost any small to medium sized umbrella.

The Impact brand light stands are black, air-cushioned, and rise to a maximum height of 8' (2.4 m).

When using this kit with the Nikon SB-900/910 or Canon 600EX-RT, additional umbrella brackets which offer an "adjustable" shoe mount are required (see Impact #9101880).

Impact brand light stands are well-known for quality at a low price.
An air cushioned light stand protects equipment and fingers from injury if you forget to tighten the stand section locks.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice little set on the cheap This achieves what it advertises with some minor problems. First off, I realize this is not high end equipment and is directed at someone looking to save money. With this in mind the Impact kit is good enough. I mount Canon 580EXii flashes on the brackets and bounce the light off the umbrellas triggered wirelessly. Works well enough, but be aware of a few things: 1. The metal piece to mount the flash on will not fit 580's (probably any canon flash for that matter) unless forced-- and could damage the rubber at the base. My solution was to use the plastic mounts included with the the flashes 2. When using them outside with the umbrellas attached witht he slightest wind and they WILL blow over. Sand bags or some kind of weight (5-10lbs) is a must for outdoor use. 3. Every time I screw anything to secure the bracket to the stand, and bracket to the the umbrella-- the screw chews into the metal. I put gaffers tape on the metal thats getting messed. Might make the Impact set last a little longer. Kind of a minor point, but I'm obsessive about keeping things neat and functional, and chewed up metal is not acceptable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dual stands / mounts / Umbrellas galore! These stands are the best bang for the buck. I am very happy with the purchase. The umbrellas work great, and the stands are very sturdy. When the winds were blowing, the stands still held up against the with with a 430ex2 mounted on the top at about 7 feet high. Only con about this is at the mount head was aluminum, which may short out your flash. To prevent this, I took off the aluminum piece, and screwed the 430ex2 shoe mount that came with the flash onto the stud. Another con is that the umbrellas doesn't turn with the flash head. To fix this, all you have to do is take out the bronze fittings, and flip the bracket, and then replaced the bronze fittings in the order you took them out with the flipped bracket. The umbrella will now adjust with the flash angle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Kit for starting off How the brakets come assymbled are unusable. The shoe needs to be placed on opposite mouting hole to be able to swivle the umbrella and flash together. If not your just swiveling the flash with a stationary umbrella. Easy Fix, But kind of annoying. The build is what you would expect from cheaper braket but i needed somthing fast and cheap and it works Perfectly Fine. The one Down size to this is the stands. They are relativly small Compared to my E-photo Stands But They work just fine. I just like Bulkier/sturdier stands. But that makes it great for a lightweight kit so thats a plus. The umbrellas are great and have removable black for shoot through

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressive, high quality product The light stands are excellent and appear durable. The air cushioned extensions work well. Though some expressed concern about the umbrella brackets being plastic, they are high density/heavy weight and look robust. I especially like the large adjustable handle even better than that of the IMBSM shoe bracket that is recommended for Nikon SB-900 Speedlight owners. I own SB-900's and found that the standard metal cold shoe mount in this kit works fine if you apply a strip of electrical or surgical tape to the base. This gives the locking mechanism of the flash unit a surface to grab onto. I also would recommend buying sand bags to keep the stands anchored if doing any location work. Overall, this Umbrella Mount kit is an excellent value with high quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Starter These are easy to set up and use - Didn't take any time at all. Light weight, and work well. The only draw back would be for outdoor use, these are very light construction. The set doesn't come with weights, I'd recommend getting some. A light breeze blew one over and the arms on the umbrella's bent immediately - they didn't break but I had to straighten them. The shoot through umbrella works well and gives good diffusion - I think they would work best as indoor stationary lights. You also need an adapter for the SB900 Speed light - thats not a big deal though, I needed those anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value For The Price I use it for portrait lighting, together with two Canon flash units, a Canon remote flash trigger, and a Photek Peoplepopper background. The umbrella mounts are very versatile, but I don't use the aluminum flash brackets that were attached to the mounts because they would short out the electrical contacts on the shoe mount of the flash. They are easily unscrewed from the mounts, and I screw on the plastic stands that came with my Canon flash units. This kit is a great value for the price. While you can buy better quality at a higher price, I gave this kit 5 stars because it completely meets my needs at a very affordable price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from bad shoe mount The stands and the umbrellas are with good quality, even the brackets are good except one of the cold shoe mount. First I loaded my SB-800 into one of the cold shoe mount, it fit very well, then I attached my SB-600 into another cold shoe mount, the flash was stuck on the mount, it was so tight that, when I eventually took the flash off, I found two sides of the flash shoe (plastic area) had deep scratches. I was very surprised when I compare these two shoe mounts. One had a good quality; the other had a very bad quality. With a small file and half an hour I fixed the shoe mount. Its not a big deal but I am very disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I expected I am in the process of learning off camera flash techniques and wanted a decent umbrella/stand combination that didn't cost a fortune. This is the product I would have designed to fit my criteria. The build quality is very good and the clamps are versital. I would have liked to have had shoot thru umbrellas but the reflector type will come in handy when shooting larger subjects. I believe these products will hold up to basic use. They might be a little light weight for hard core pros but for advanced amatures or students these are great.
