This Eg series Precision Matte Grid Lines Eg-D Interchangeable Focusing Screen from Canon provides three horizontal and five vertical etched grid lines to facilitate easier composition and horizon alignment.

This "D" type focusing screen assists in keeping straight lines in a subject straight, positioning subjects off-center, or by keeping compositions in a series consistent from one shot to the next. The camera's AF points remain fully visible when using this screen.

    Canon 3356B001 Reviews

Precision Matte Grid Lines Eg-D Interchangeable Focusing Screen is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 155.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great! Get one! If you shoot a large file like I do with a 5D, having to rotate the image in post processing can cost you a lot of pixels! A tripod and bubble level is not always convenient, and sometimes there is no time for them anyway. This product gets you many more level shots hand held, while allowing you to concentrate on the action instead of finding a reference for level. Great product. A little intimidating to install, but only because it is deceptively easy. Release clip and the screen drops, grab and lift with the special tool, then grab and drop in the new screen. A+ product for landscapes and action!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and effective There's not a whole lot to say about this simple little accessory It provides very handy horizontal and vertical guidelines, visible through the viewfinder, useful in ensuring straight and true compositions. It was pretty straightforward to install, after first removing the standard screen that was already inside my 6D camera. It certainly has made me curious about Canon's other specialty focusing screens But apparently very few others will fit the 6D camera. If you install this, don't forget to modify the custom settings within the Canon menu, to compensate for this screen specifically. Also note that the gridlines on the screen are not rule of thirds placement, if that is what you're after.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5D Grid Screen f you're using any of Canon's pro SLR models that allow you to change the focusing screen (EOS 5D, 1Ds, etc.), this is a must buy. The focusing screen segments the view you see through the viewfinder into three horizontal and three vertical areas. This is really great to help you align things in a straight line or if you're following the rule of thirds. In addition to the vertical and horizontal lines you see, you can still see the focusing points. This is a great upgrade that I would recommend for anybody, but especially for nature photographers where the rule of thirds is really the tried and true method of photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Wide Angle & Shift Lens Option Originally purchased for use with the new 24mm TS-E II shift lens, I now find it great for all my wide angle lenses. It does NOT block the focus indicators, obscure the image, or visually reduce brightness. The provided tool is great for removing the original screen and holding the new screen when installing to prevent finger smudges. But I didn't find it was designed very well for releasing the screen frame latch or for closing it after installing the new screen. A small jeweler's screwdriver was easier to use for this purpose on my 5D MKII. BUT BE CAREFUL NOT TO SLIP AND SCRATCH THE SCREEN. Overall fairly easy to install! Don't forget to select the EG-D screen setting in your camera menu (Custom Function IV-5 on 5D MKII). This adjusts the metering for .3 EV lower light transmission of the EG-D Screen

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for keeping things aligned The same as the standard screen, except with a grid. I don't find the grid obtrusive, but it is very useful if you need to line up a horizon, verticals, etc. I used the Ee-D grid screen on my original 5D and immediately purchased the Eg-D for my new 5D MK II. I'm giving 4 vs. 5 stars because I see no reason why the price of 5D MK II accessories should be so much more than those for the original 5D. This seems true across the board for accessories. Handle carefully - the plastic fresnel lenses are easy to scratch or smudge and cleaning a fingerprint (vs. dust) is essentially impossible. When inserting, it is easy to get dust trapped between the screen and the bottom of the pentaprism, which will result in dust spots in the viewfinder (but not in your photos). Use a sensor cleaning brush or air blower to make sure the two mating surfaces are clean; then they will stay clean. Additional dust may appear later on the exposed bottom of the screen, but this is easy to clean without removing the screen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Screen, Be careful with install This is an excellent view screen for the 5DmII. While installation is somewhat stratight-forward following included directions, I had problems with seating the screen tabs and closing the holder. At one point, removing a lens ejected the screen, it falling to the floor/rug resulting in scratches to lower right corner. That was annoying as heck - a brand new screen getting scratched. Delicate little piece of HW so be careful when handling. Don't drop it. Don't forget to change C.FN5 for the D screen for proper exposure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Useful in some situations I bought this item for it's obvious use to help me keep my lines straight when shooting architecture. The problem is that it only works well in bright light. If you try to use it in low light the lines are very difficult to see, which is when I use it the most. I will stick to using live view mode with the grid displayed to keep my verticals straight, since this item doesn't help as much as I would have liked. I would only recommend this item if you shoot in broad daylight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shoot your level best! I've always had trouble keeping the camera level. This focusing screen has a visible grid to help level the horizon or verticals. It is there but you really don't see it until you want too. In other words, it's subtle but extremely useful. Take your time installing it. Follow the instructions and don't force anything.
