This dedicated 72mm Tamron Petal-Style Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with the AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC and SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) lenses.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage for the minimum amount of weight and hood area. This dedicated lens hood is designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.
what is the difference between a lens hood for a tamron lens 62mm 18-270mm PZD VC and non PZD, is the fitting different?

The physical size of the Tamron AF 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO with its 72mm front filter thread size is larger than the PZD models, both which have a 62mm filter thread size. The measurements, and therefore, the size and diameter of the Tamron Petal-Style Lens Hood for Tamron 18-270mm (Non-PZD) and 17-50mm Lenses is much larger than the smaller Tamron DA18 Lens Hood for 18-250mm & 18-270mm PZD Lenses, B&H # TALH18250.
