    Sound Devices XL-WPH3 reviews

XL-WPH3 45W DC Power Supply for Sound Devices Recorders and Mixers is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Long on Power, Short on Length My one gripe about this guy is that the cord which attaches the mixer to the adapter-thinger is too darn short. In situations where my MixPre-D is not swinging from my neck it lives atop one of my tripods via the handy tripod mount SoundDevices provided. In such situations, because of the shortness of the cord, that heavy adapter unit hangs awkwardly down from the MixPre instead of resting comfortably on the floor. It is a setup which seems to me to put too much stress on the four-pin connector. Small gripe, yes. Unreasonable? Maybe. But the tripod mount is included and all of the camera manufacturers seem to have figured it out. In any event it is a problem easily fixed with good old Yankee ingenuity and a little gaffer's tape.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from expensive Well made, but it's basically the same type of Ac/Dc converter as arrives with any 3.5 inch external hard drive, which costs the same or less, and comes with a free external drive. Way over-priced for what it is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Connector breaks with use When used with the Pix240(i), I've had two of these wear and break at the Hirose connector. There is poor strain releief there, and over time, the inadequate rubber strain boot works its way out of the Hirose connector , which is followed soon thereafter by a break in the briaded shied wire. Once the last strand of the braid breaks - you are out of power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from solid power supply for 552 and 302 I have the sound device mixers 552 and 302. This is a no brainer for me anytime I have a power connection. I have to to record live events and sometimes don't have the luxury of being able switch batteries. The stress of going to the limits a the AA batts especially when I have to supply phantom power to several mics. It is also saves me on the battery cost and availability. I like the locking hirose connector. I also like that it fits all the SD mixers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I recommend this product The Sound Devices power supply is compatible with any 12 VDC device using a 4-pin, Hirose connector. I use them with my Sound Devices 7xx recorders, but also with the Zoom F8 Field Recorder. It is much more reliable to use a latching connector than a tubular DC connector. Furthermore the cables and construction of the SD power supply are much more robust and manageable for use under field conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First choice for MixPre-10T power! In a bag: Support the recorder with a plug in device such as a battery sled or with a trimmed small foam pillow so that pressure is removed from the connector cable. The 110AC-12vDC adapter made by Jet has a pin-out diagram of the Hirose connector printed on the bottom - nice touch. Not tested under full load with 8 powered XLR mics input to the MixPre -10T for extended recording.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good replacement for original pwr supply I got this to replace the original power supply for a Sound Devices recorder. The original was a small wall wart and the Hirose connector developed a short. Sound Devices doesn't use those anymore, and the newer XL-WPH3 unit is much beefier. Although it's relatively expensive for a power supply/AC adapter/charger, it's worth it for the reliability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works I use this for powering both my SoundDevices Mix Pre-D, and the 633 mixer. There is a guide on the sleeve of the connector that keeps the pins in line when connecting to the mixer - a good thing loking at how delicate the pins on these connections are. Plenty of cord length with a power light indicator. A bit pricey.
