Acratech 1126 Overview

The Acratech Ultimate Ballhead is the result of innovative efficient design, created for combining low mass with incredible stopping power. Available with or without an installed Arca-type quick release clamp, it is an ideal head for those that do not require a progressive tension control.

The innovative design of the Acratech gives the photographer full access to 25% of a sphere at any time, and it is entirely capable of providing support in any direction so long as the tripod legs are not overwhelmed.

A quick release plate is not included, and Acratech offers a range of camera-specific plates, as well as a generic plate. Or can be used with any "Arca-Swiss type" plate, available from Arca-Swiss, Foba, NPC, Novoflex & Wimberley.

This version of the V2 includes a built-in spirit level aiding in tripod and camera alignment.

The ball-socket pivot only really locks down if you crank it incredibly hard. I had a lot of hope, but after trying to stabilize a Canon 5D mk II and a 16-35mm lens, my hand seriously hurts. Shooting vertically basically requires you to support the camera. A tripod head that needs me to hold it with my hand while shooting isn't worth $30, let alone over $300. The rest of it is great except for its main function.

This lightweight ballhead is precision engineered, and very stable for most uses, except the longest and heaviest telephoto lenses. The open construction is brilliant, the ball is easy to clean if it should be contaminated with sand or dirt. An excellent head for travel and hiking. The rubber knobs ensures a good grip on the controls.
