Tiffen 77SKY overview

  • 1Description

The Tiffen 77mm Skylight 1-A Filter is a general use filter with a slight pink tint to help improve overall color accuracy and clarity. The light pink coloration helps to reduce the overall bluish cast of daylight and is especially effective when photographing landscapes and in shade.

The Sky 1A filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

Helps to improve general color accuracy and clarity when photographing outdoors in daylight and shade.
Light pink tint reduces bluish cast of natural light.
General protection filter reduces dust, moisture, and scratches from reaching lens elements.

    Tiffen 77SKY reviews

    77mm Skylight 1-A Filter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job for a fraction of the price I bought this for use on my Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Nikon DX-Format DSLRs mainly for protection. So far, it's been a great addition. No vignetting at 11mm, so I'm happy. It does cut down a bit on the blueish hue, but I can't say I've noticed a dramatic difference. Despite the other comments saying the lens cap won't fit properly when using this filter, I have had no problems with the Tokina lens cap (it was a little less-than-stellar to begin with on the lens itself, and I can tell no difference attaching it to the filter). It stays put for me. Maybe it depends on the lens/lens cap?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great essential filter Great for protecting your lens and at the same time getting better images. One time I dropped my lens and because of this filter it was unharmed. Just had to buy another filter he he.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does What it's Supposed to Do I bought this to protect the front element on my Sigma HSM 70-200. I have used Tiffen filters in the past - they have always performed well for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what I wanted it to do. I now don't feel so paranoid going out in a crowd with that large front element on my Sigma 50mm f1.4 exposed. Dropped my eos 100mm f2.8 and the only damage was the filter. Glad it wasn't the Sigma as it was unprotected that day and the crowds were pushing to get a better look at the WaterFire event I was covering. Not so sure how the pink tint will affect things though it will most likely cut down the blue. I'll be testing that this weekend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple but Perfect This is not like a lens or anything but a good filter is necessary and makes a huge difference. I like that this Tiffen Skylight Filter is so clear because this allows me to take the photo I am trying to take. If I want to change tint or saturation or anything I can do it later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this filter! Solid buy and performs flawlessly, just the way it is supposed to! Comes in great packaging that can be used as durable storage, threads on perfectly, and makes for beautiful, warm, colorful shots without the washout created by UV! As always, another great product by Tiffen!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cloudy in the middle I bought this for my 18-140 Nikkor lens and after using it for both daytime photos and night work I finally had to take it off. In the middle of the image a strange cloud appears, its not really strong in the image but still noticeable. Waste of money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent Skylight 1A Filter THERE ARE MORE EXPENSIVE Skylight 1A filers but I don't believe there are any better quality lens than a filter made by Tiffen
