Leatherman Inc. has pioneered the market of multi-purpose tools for over 25 years, assembling every product in their Portland, Oregon facility (some components are sourced outside the USA when required, but Leatherman uses USA-based materials wherever possible and never 'ships a job' overseas).
The Leatherman Freestyle is a minimalist knife/pliers combination, with the knife being accessible when the tool function is closed (just like a normal pocket knife). The blade's the star here, and you can open it with one hand. It has normal and serrated sections and is composed of 420HC steel, a 0.4-0.5% carbon steel with ~13% chromium that resists corrosion, holds an edge, and generally makes for a good all-purpose knife steel when properly treated.
Following the feedback of customers seeking light, functional, and minimalist tools of great strength, the Freestyle gives you much of what you need and little that you don't and weighs just 4.5 ounces (128g). The Freestyle clips on to belts, packs, and vests with no need for a sheath. You'll be awfully impressed by the power of its pliers.
