Sachtler FSB 8 Tripod System Reviews
What makes it great also makes it imperfect
This better be a perfect system for the price. The movement and action on it are perfect. You are really able to dial in the resistance and balancing your rig is a breeze. The ease of use on adjusting the legs works exactly as advertised. This makes setting up and making adjustments on the fly simple. But the same mechanism for locking and unlocking the legs easily becomes disengaged when you move the system by resting it on your shoulder. This keeps it from being perfect. I also wish it came with multiple plates at this price. I will update my review once I've been able to use the tripod more often.
Great product
High Quality product
My 2 Sachtler System FSB 8's in action!
My 2 Sachtler System FSB 8's in action! (check out the photo) Super high quality build. I love the clamps to adjust height. Highly recommended.
Smooth monster
This piece of equipment is more than I need but it's future proof. Everything about it is well built, perfectly machined and gorgeous. The legs lengthen by use of the red handle at the top. Pull the handle and the leg springs out to the floor. I thought I'd like that, but in fact I love it. Also, I prefer the leg design. Instead of multiple legs that trap dust and dirt there's a single leg, and each part is extended from the upper part. Great engineering. As it says, the head has separate controls for drag and locking, so when you get the drag set you can lock for moving or storage and the drag is not affected. I will gripe that the level is hard to see, under the fluid head, paralax so the head really has to be removed. Fortunately this is mostly for indoor recording, so once it's flat I don't have to mess with it. I took the spreader off, but I put it back on to enable equidistant leg positioning. I loaded it with my gear and use a small backpack raincover as a dust guard. I carry from spot to spot without a problem, even onto my patio for long lens telephoto, though of course it's intended for video. Expensive, yes. Requires a very long proprietary plate which is awkward for smaller kits, no options for a shorter plate. Even so, I don't regret my choice.
amazing
good deal too
Best tripod I've ever used... by far.
Okay, so $300 was my most expensive tripod until this. As I've grown in my filmmaking and client work, I decided to elevate my game with some smooth pan/tilt moves. At first, the head was the reason I bought this. Such a game changer. Smooth. tight. Well balanced. It was strong. Top plate instead of slide plate. The sticks are great also. At first, the legs felt a little gimmicky. They stuck a bit when detracting (due to user error and not pulling the tabs all the way up). The handle is clutch and is included. It helps with carrying and adjusting the height. Also has a screw port to attach an external monitor. So nice. I love that feature. I grew to love it and love it more and more each time. The tripod is heavy. Heavier than my Carbon Fiber speedlock system surprisingly. It is very solid though, so the trade off isn't too much. I feel very comfortable both leaving my camera and carrying it while attached, something I never did with other tripods. My biggest gripe is the bag. It's a bit big and could fit another smaller tripod inside... I travel small or as small as possible. My other Sachtler is in a E-Image bag, which it fits perfectly. The sachtler bag does have a zipper and two pockets. I wish it was more form fitting due to storage and keeping things small. Overall, very solid tripod if it's in your budget, I'd say go for it. I know it will make my projects better as it's already added another level of production value to my work.
Awesome
This is a great tripod, light weight, easy to raise and lower, head can handle my FX-9 with extras!
Life changing!
This thing is soooo smooth and convenient!! The latches are awesome to work with and are just unbelievably awesome! You won't regret buying this!
