Its a release cable. I use it with my PocketWizards to remote click the shutter on my Pentax K3 / K5. It works its coiled, and I expect it will last just fine.

Necessary to remotely fire camera using a PowerSync radio control receiver and transmitter. Cable was a little pricy ($), but works as advertised.

Does this cable have the same size connection plug on both ends? It appears in the photo that one end is 3.5mm (1/8 ) and the other end is a smaller 2.5mm sub-mini.

I believe you are correct, it has been a while since I have looked, but I bought this for my T3i to connect to a remote flash sync.
