    Matrox MXO2MINI/D Reviews

MXO2 Mini for Desktop Systems is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I have moved from two previous NLE standard definition editing systems to Adobe Premiere Pro for HD and needed greater I/O functionality plus a way to have a full screen full frame monitor for editing. The Matrox MX02 mini was the perfect piece of equipment. It was more complicated than I expected to get the correct drivers installed and get it performing correctly, but DO NOT FEAR, Matrox Support is AS GOOD AS IT GETS. They were easy to reach on the phone and their support is second to none. They were with me every step of the way through the installation and even called me back the next day to make sure everything was OK.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Piece of Equipment In my Final Cut Pro Edit Suite, I've been having to use my 2nd computer monitor as my program monitor. With the MXO2 mini, I was able to purchase a consumer grade LCD flat panel and use the MXO2 mini's calibration tool to obtain an excellent program monitor. This left both of my computer monitors free for use in editing. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who needs a program monitor out, but can't afford to go the Kona 3 route, and cannot afford to purchase an HD reference monitor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Has worked great for me I use this product primarily to have basic HD monitoring while I edit on my home suite. It works as advertised and pumps external video via HDMI to my Samsung 40 with no lag whatsoever. I've used it with Final Cut and Media Composer successfully. I'm a little disappointed that so far I have not found an easy way to switch the external video on and off in Final Cut -- the usual tapping of command+F12 does not in fact do the trick; it seems you have to manually drill in to external video and set it to 'none', and then manually set the audio to follow as well. I've yet to really dig into whether there's a better workaround for this behavior though. All in all a great product for the price!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't do what it claims All documentation claims that the MXO2 will monitor 1080p 29.97 when running it with Avid Media Composer 5.5. I have yet to get it to work. Although Matrox technical support has been eager to help, even they can't explain why it wont. I get the feeling they haven't even tried it! Although it does monitor other raster sizes and frame rates quite will, so if you only need limited I/O then for the price it's pretty good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works good most of time. I got this unit to display video on 47 screen while I edit, and for monitoring Color correction. Mostly though, I was tired of the stop motion effect I was seeing when I monitored just using the video card from my Mac Pro, on the larger monitor. It's definitely a crisper image, to the sometimes detriment of the source. It has definitely helped to reveal some of the shortcomings in an image. Occasionally it will hiccup on an image or stumble over an edit, but I don't know if that is just the speed of my drives. It was pretty easy to set-up and use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great video capture. Solid piece of hardware. I recommend this over an internal capture card, this processor offloads calcs from the PC to this box, freeing up the computer to run other software full speed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent product installs automatically I use the Matrox MXO2 Mini to interface with Media Composer v7. It gives me HDMI output to my video monitor so that the final output can be viewed in final output form. The only problem that I have with it is that the interface cable is much too short so I needed to buy the longer cable which incurred an extra expense. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and Elegant I use Final Cut 7 and Avid 5. I am able to set up a Client monitor for both with ease. Avid automatically identified the matrox hardware, and FCP requires only a setting at the outset of the project. It is an economical way to get around more expensive options.
