  • 1Description

Now you can route your computer monitor via your SDI router! The Blackmagic HDLEXT-DVI DVI Extender lets you can extend the DVI-D connection to your computer monitor via simple SDI cables! Now it's much easier to connect your computer displays anywhere in your facility, or even to more than one monitor when using any 3 Gb/s SDI router. DVI Extender also works as a regular DVI to SD/HD-SDI video converter, that's perfect for broadcast graphics!

Route Your Computer Monitor
Imagine the creative freedom to design your facility the way you want! Now you can move noisy computers out of client rooms plus you can even have a duplicate computer monitor for your client to watch! DVI Extender is easy to use and plugs into an HDLink Pro or HDLink Optical Fiber converter at the other end of the monitor extension. This means you can use a single monitor for either computer or video monitoring!
Built in SDI Audio Embedding
DVI Extender includes a standard 3.5mm audio mini jack input so you can connect audio from your computer! That means you get full 3D accelerated graphics and audio from your computer to SDI. That's a perfect solution for digital signage, Flash playback, PowerPoint, gaming and more! Now any software can be output to crystal clear SDI video!
Convert DVI to SDI Video
With DVI Extender, you can harness your computer's built in 3D accelerated display to create realtime broadcast graphics in standard definition and high definition video. Simply set the control panel to Video Output and DVI extender will output NTSC, PAL, or 1080 HD resolution SDI video with embedded audio from your computer via the audio input jack.
Advanced 3 Gb/s SDI Technology
The latest 3 Gb/s SDI technology is built into DVI Extender, making it fully compatible with all of your SD and HD-SDI equipment. With 3 Gb/s SDI you know that DVI Extender will be fully compatible with new video formats in the future! Adding new formats is easy, as they can be loaded via DVI Extender's USB connection.
Full Digital Quality
Unlike older scan converters, DVI Extender is a fully digital converter that connects the DVI-D output on your computer to SDI equipment such as HDLink Pro. That's a direct pixel-for-pixel digital connection to SDI, which is the highest quality possible and eliminates all scaling problems!
Powers From Any USB Port
DVI Extender does not need messy power supplies because it connects directly to any USB port on your computer. That's ideal for portable use, because DVI Extender can be powered directly from your laptop. Or you could even use a portable iPod USB power supply!

    Blackmagic Design HDLEXT-DVI reviews

HDLEXT-DVI DVI Extender is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Quality, but one gotcha The quality of the video that this product outputs is very good. The embedding of audio is a great feature too. If you plan to use it in a broadcast/production workflow make sure that your computer's video card can output 59.94hz. It is the only way to get the DVI Extender to output 1080 or 720 that is compatible with video switchers and recorders in an HDSDI production environment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works with monitors, not with decks I purchased this in order to quickly convert Quicktime files to tape by playing the files in full screen mode and recording the output of the DVI Extender to tape. All the documentation claims that the output is compatible with all SDI equipment, but the decks were not happy with the SDI output of the DVI Extender (SD and HD). When I called Blackmagic support on this issue, I was told they've only tested it with monitors, not decks. They didn't seem terribly interested in looking into it, either. The decks I tried this on were an HVR1500, F500, and SR5800 (all Sony). If you are looking to just display your computer desktop on an SDI monitor, it works as advertised for that purpose, and looks great. I would love to see a firmware fix from Blackmagic Design to stabilize the SDI output to truly work with ALL SDI equipment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Very easy to set up and use. The USB interface is easy to install and simple to use. I purchased this product to view QuickTime videos output from the second DVI output of my graphics card and input to my routing switcher to view on HD-SDI destinations. Picture quality is good for the price but there is some artifacts in text. Wouldn't use it as an extended desktop or dual display. No genlock capability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works! Use this to convert the thunderbolt output of an I-MAC, 27 (latest generation, late 2014 manufacture) to HD-SDI for input into a Panasonic AG-HMX100 HD Video Mixer. You are unable to use the Thunderbolt to DVI adaptor directly because this switcher does not support HDCP and Apple has HDCP riding down their thunderbolt signal. By using the DVI adaptor plugged in to the Blackmagic DVI / HD SDI extender plugged into the switch HDCP is by-passed and the set up works perfectly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't work the way I needed it to I bought this wanting to use it to capture the screen of (primarily) Windows laptops, and send the signal into a production video switcher to be used as a video input in a live editing/broadcasting system. Turns out, this device has to have an input size that's equal to whatever output size you need. (I needed an output size from it, into my switcher, to be 1920x1080) Since most Windows laptops can't output 1920x1080 it wouldn't work for me. I wished it was setup to accept a broader range of input sizes and scale them to several choices of output sizes...but it can't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again and again I use this product in order to properly send a true 1080p signal to other black magic devices over SDI. This does not only work as an extender for DVI but as a signal converter for accurate signal processing

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Driver Dependent Once we downloaded the latest driver it worked well with PC and Mac.We are using it to convert DVI to HD/SDI for input to switchers. We have successively used it with ATEM and Analog Way switchers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dvi Extender outputs HD SDI image I plan on using the DVI extender with Qtake video recording and effects software, to output recorded HD video to on set monitors
