Sony ECM-678 overview

  • 1Description

The Sony ECM-678/9X short shotgun microphone delivers professional audio signal reproduction while remaining camera mountable and cost effective. Designed for use in broadcast, professional video, film, and field audio applications, the ECM-678/9X is at home mounted on a boom pole or Sony HDV Series, DVCAM Series and XDCAM Series cameras.

The super-cardioid polar pattern aides in the microphone's directional response, allowing clear pick up of the target signal while eliminating noise and ambiance at the off-axis sections of the microphone.

The ECM-678/9X features a low-cut filter switch that eliminates noise and low frequency rumble. The microphone requires external +48V phantom power and it's rugged design proves suitable for rigorous use on the road.

Camera and Boom Pole Mountable
The ECM-678/9X is mountable on boom poles and Sony HDV Series, DVCAM Series and XDCAM Series cameras.
Flat and Wide Frequency Response
It's wide flat frequency response enables accurate, detailed reproduction of a wide range of signal sources.
High Sensitivity and Low Noise
The super-cardioid polar pattern is effective in rejecting off-axis noise, resulting in a close and focused pick up of the desired signal.
Low-Cut Filter
The ECM-678/9X features a low cut filter switch that eliminates low frequency hum, wind noise, ambient noise and proximity effect noise.

    Sony ECM-678 reviews

ECM-678/9X Shotgun Microphone is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO MUCH BETTER THAN I THOUGHT! I've used sennheiser, IMO, this is just as nice, at a better price. Low noise, wide range... Picked up a near whisper, crystal clear, at nearly 50ft. AMAZING! Also, VERY DURABLE. Bottom Line: This is THE BEST FOR YOUR MONEY!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent microphone Excellent microphone, good sound quality, crystalline, transparent, inherent noise almost imperceptible, metal construction, has only given me joys, in fact I have two units. I also had the renowned Sennheiser MKH-416 P48, and this Sony has nothing to envy. Sony has not done the marketing work required by this microphone, in fact many audio professionals do not even evaluate using a microphone of this brand for professional applications.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought as back up, now use all of the time I bought this mic as a backup to my Rode NTG3. The Rode is a fine mic, but this Sony is really quite good. I can use it in an exterior setting, inside, even in a car. I'm really happy with this mic. Much more than a backup. This is an unsung mic. I'm a big fan!
