Westcott 1100 reviews

Illuminator Arm is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from The clips do NOT hold reflectors I'm surprised at the high rating of this item. I purchased both this one and the Impact 1103 to see which worked better at holding reflectors. The little black clips on the Westcott are a piece of junk. They are tiny little plastic pieces with wimpy springs that do not hold the reflector at all, and look like they will break easily. Very frustrating. Everything else about this arm is solid and sturdy. If Westcott completely redesigned the clips this unit would have potential. Your reflector will fall off within 60 seconds of setting it up. I recommend the Impact 1103 instead. It uses a different type of clip which is much more secure. The Impact could be improved by beefing up it's clips as well, but at least it works. These are both for indoor use - don't expect your reflectors to stay on these outdoors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for the price I bought this because I got tired of finding someone to hold a disc for me, they get distracted and the disc always gets out of position. With the Illuminator Arm by Westcott, it will hold the reflector exactly where I want it, the reflector clamps are quick and positive (although I have not figure out if they sell replacements, or how to replace them in-case these plastic adapters snaps!) I find the twin ball-joint are clamped down with one lever, so you can't independently adjust the tensions. Mine came a bit tight, but it was easy to adjust the lock-nut. Overall I like the built quality and the ability to telescope to 60, although I wonder how well it hold a 60 reflector.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reflector upgrade I recently purchased this item that I saw in a tutorial at the B&H event space. I use to use a white cardboard reflector clipped on to a lightstand. It was difficult to work with. The illuminator arm really angles the Westcott reflector that I also purchased. I find this very helpful in my studio..more precise angles and not as makeshift. Im satisfied with it and would buy it again. On the down side the ball joints are stiff and you have to take care when storing the arm not to break the plastic clips on the ends. That being said I find this a very welcome addition to my studio.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works better than others I've tried I used one for decades. ordered a 2nd to use outdoors and the dealer sent a Bogen. The reflector kept falling off! Drove me nuts. I sent back the Bogen arm to get another Wescott.I now have 3. One I use in studio, and two I use outdoors. I leave one on each side of the studio so I don't have to carry it around.I recommend this brand/unit highly.@35 year pro

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good This arm is an excellent product to hold your reflectors. I bought westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 52 and westcott Illuminator Reflector Kit 6-in-1 - 30, they perfectly match with the arm. Build quality: very durable, it will last for a very long time. Not too heavy, very strong.Holding the reflector: it can hold your reflector at any angle and be stable. Using experience: very easy to assemble, every thing is intuitive. You do not need any instructions. In the package, the carry case IS provided which makes it convenient for travel. I have used this arm, 52inch reflector and manfrotto 1052bac indoor, NO sand bags are needed. For outdoor usage, a sand bag or a stronger light stand is recommended in wind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as advertised I went through most of the reviews here on BH to decide which reflector arm to use. There were complaints on various manufac. units, in particular about sagging of arms over time or the attachment of the arm to a stand was flimsy. You will not need to be concerned about either of these issues with this unit, its built very well. I have a large circular Wescott multi reflector to it, once set up, it does not move. Very confidence inspiring. I am a firm believer in you almost always get what you pay for - it is true with this piece of gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, solidly built arm. I use large Westcott reflectors and diffusers at most shoots these days and this arm is invaluable. On one of my light stands, it's like having an extra assistant with me. Although the 'clamps' are not quite as substantially made as I'd like (plastic, not metal like the rest of this substantially built arm), they are designed to work with my specific gear so everything snaps easily into place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I love it! I have a light stand by a different manufacturer and a reflector by another and they all three work together perfectly! I also love the fact that it is portable yet sturdy. I'm able to take it with me when I'm doing outdoor shoots and it the perfect size. I plan to buy another!
