Having used this peanut all the way up to the extended range Wein slave. They work and it's hard to bust them up. If it ain't working reverse polarity, then also try aluminum foil to catch the light.

HiCan I use this on a Quantum QFT5D-R flash to trigger it from an on camera flash? (Camera mfr is canon )Thank You.
The L8 Micro Slave can be used on a Quantum T5DR flash to trigger it from an on camera flash. Depending on the model of flash on the camera, the pre-flash would have to be disengaged to allow that flash to sync the Quantum flash.

Is this compatible with high trigger voltage older flash units? Up to 400v? I have a couple Braun F900 units that specify 360v at camera connection.
I was using it on the old Novatron 400 VR power pack. I had no problem with it at all and it worked very well. Used a speed light to trigger it. so i did not have to connect via sync cable.

This will work on just about anything that receives a household sync plug-in. Yes, it will work. Note: polarity is important with these units. If it doesn't fire try turning it around and plugging back in.

I thought this unit just plugs in wall and the flash on cam triggered. Duh. Did I ruin it?
For it to work properly plug into the flash power pack. Plugging into a wall outlet does nothing. It's designed, primarily, to trigger studio lights that cannot be plugged into your camera. Such as my old Novatron lights that I used with film cameras. The voltage of these lights is far too high for digital cameras. It will destroy them. Therefore, I attach a flash to the camera and turn the flash down to the lowest power setting. You have to go to manual setting on your camera, check the exposure with a light meter, etc. Bottom line, a small bust of light from the on camera flash will trigger the slave to trigger my studio lights. Did you damage it by plugging into a 110 wall outlet?????? Possibly. It's really not designed the 15-20 amps in that outlet. Sounds like you're trying to trigger your flash remotely. It has to be connected to the flash then another flash will trigger it. And most on camera flashes will not accept this device.
