    Olympus VF-1 reviews

VF-1 Viewfinder for 17mm f/2.8 Micro Four Thirds Lens is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use on Olympus Pen and Fuji X-M1 Bought this for use with my M.Zuiko 17mm F2.8 lens on my Olympus Pen. The viewfinder fits securely in the hot shoe of the camera. It is very clear and there are guides showing the field of view (34mm full frame equivalent) for the lens. I also started using this Viewfinder with my Fuji X-M1 camera with the 27mm pancake lens (41mm full frame equivalent). The guides are slightly wider than the actual field of view, so I have to be a little careful in framing. (Besides this viewfinder is also 4:3 aspect, as opposed to 3:2 on the Fuji). But it works nicely now that I have got the hang of it. I had to shave off a bit of the plastic in order for the viewfinder to fit on the Fuji X-M1's hot shoe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's so dope! I don't care for using my E-P3 at arm's length, so having a viewfinder is a must. I have the VF-2 EVF and, while it's okay, it pales next to a good optical viewfinder. So I gave the VF-1 a try, pairing it with my 17mm 2.8, and I'm glad I did. It's so much clearer and brighter than the EVF, and half the size to boot. My only gripe is it has too much eye relief, requiring me to hold it too far from my eye to brace the camera against forehead. I wish it could be fitted with a rubber eyecup like the VF-1, allowing bracing on forehead and cutting stray light. Like others have mentioned, the bright lines cover about 75% of the center of the frame, so you can see outside the picture area. If you don't mind the edge distortion, you could probably use it with a wider prime like the Panasonic 14 2.8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery saver and more If you are in a consistent light setting and have made all the adjustments, you can shut down the LCD screen and use the Optical VF-1. Works great for quick shots. It also helps in bright sunlight when the LCD is washed out. And if you are like me and have been using an optical viewfinder for many years, it just feels more natural than holding up the camera to view the LCD. One drawback would be manual focus, but this isn't meant for that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like the 17 mm Prime - Love the VF-1 I ordered the optical VF-1 because the EVF (VF-2) was on back-order... but I'm glad to have both. The VF-1 is the almost perfect partner to the 17 mm prime lens - it's light, bright, has excellent eye relief (not specified) and makes the E-P2 a perfect street camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great deal The product works well for what it is intended for. Works better with Lumix 20mm f1.7 lens on Olympus E-P1. A must in bright light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It doesn't have to go on an Olympus! I use this on a K01, a wonderful camera, but Pentax doesn't offer a viewfinder for it. The VF-1 has a field of view that closely matches two of my lenses, a Pentax 21/3.2 Limited and a Sigma 24/1.8 EX DG, with the proviso that you set the camera's aspect ratio to 4:3 for the 21 lens and 3:2 for the 24 lens. I had to thin the foot of the VF-1 slightly with sandpaper to get it to fit into the K01's hotshoe, and with the (rather large) Sigma 24 lens a chunk of the lower part of your field of view is obstructed, but otherwise no problem. It is light and unobtrusive, the view is clear, and while not exactly cheap, it's a lot less expensive than various alternatives I looked at. So in bright light outdoors the K01 has become much more user friendly!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very useful and cool This works perfectly with Panasonic's 20mm lens. It makes it easy to shoot quickly and is also helpful in bright sunlit conditions. Very retro and cool too. I wish it locked onto the flash attachment somehow, but it is still not easy to knock off accidentally. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great optical viewfinder I've had this for a week so far and am very pleased. Works great with my Panny 20mm pancake lens, and adds to the retro look and feel of my EP-2. Useful for outdoor shots in bright light, though not really required. I considered getting the more expensive VF-2 but in the end am glad I went with the optical, it just feels nicer!
