Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 Overview

  • 1Description

Covering a flexible ultra-wide range, the Sony A-mount 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM from Sigma is a versatile zoom well-suited for landscape, architectural, and interior photography. The lens's optical design incorporates a series of low dispersion and aspherical elements, which help to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range, as well as contribute to improved sharpness and clarity. A Super Multi-Layer Coating is also used to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Benefitting the imaging attributes, a Hyper Sonic Motor also affords quick and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Wide-angle zoom is designed for APS-C-format Sony A-mount cameras and provides a 15-30mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/3.5 maximum aperture is suitable for working in available light conditions.
Two Extra-Low Dispersion (ELD) elements and one Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element are featured in the optical design, and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Four aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), along with an internal focusing design, realizes quick and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Minimum focusing distance of 9.4" is available throughout the zoom range.
Seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

    Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 Reviews

10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Lens for Sony A is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens!!!!!! I shoot real estate photography for web and publication marketing. I have shot thousands of properties and over 50 magazine covers. I needed a lens with a wider view and as little distortion as possible. This lens did the trick. I use the Sony Alpha cameras. The pictures that you see were the first shooting with this lens, the first day out. Nothing is worse to me than to see a wide angle shot that is distorted. Photography is changing very quickly due to equipment advances. A photography has to be able to advance and stay on the cutting edge to stay alive. I would buy this lens over and over again. Great wide angle views. And B&H seems to always be right on target with their reviews as well as service. Thank you, Mike

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens I use this with my Sony a77 and I love it. Great landscape shots and even indoors in tight spaces. The flexibility of going to 20mm is really helpful over a 10mm prime. Don't expect much bokeh effect with a f/3.5 though. For landscape shots, especially with a tripod, 3.5 is plenty. The focus is quite fast. It is somewhat heavy but you would expect that out of a quality lens. I recommend using the included hood with this lens as you get flares and what-not depending on light source locations. It also comes in a padded, zippered, cube box thing for those who don't have any other means of carrying it around. Overall, this lens can do a lot and I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love at first shot Superb quality at a fair price. This lens is amazing. I wish I would have made the leap months ago. I'm a realtor and shoot my own photos. This lens was the missing link. I shoot with a Sony a65. My friend shot with much more expensive lenses, full frame camera and the results were very similar. My processed photos were a little softer, but then again I don't do much processing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from quite a view I have only had the lens, married to Sony 6500 with the A converter, for less than a month. The first result are good to very good. My poor eyesight drove me to autofocus from a manual focus fixed 10mm. Couldnt get focus right manually. Sonys almost instant focus is the solution. I need the 10 for work in tight spaces. Distortion is acceptable at the edges and easy to crop out. focus is sharp though fixed over zoom will always be better even if you get the focus right...as I dont. I wish the zoom went to 30 or even 40, but then wishes are rarely fulfilled. My solution: learn to accomodate

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Lens I decided on this lens as it was the F3.5 vs the F4.5. It takes great photos and I have yet to see any real vignetting. The photos are crisp and clean and I could not have asked for a better Wide Angle. Very happy with it! The auto Focus is quick so far I have seen no aberrations at either 10mm or 20mm. Seems very constant.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Lens Bought whilst on holiday, got some wonderful photos around New York. Good autofocus and easy manual as well. Excellent wide angle field of view which works well with the alpha. Less good: Can only take 1 screw filter to the front without vignetteing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice lens way above kit lens quality I am a photo enthusiest and wanted an ultra-wide zoom. This one suits me well. It is relativly fast for a mid-price lens and the apeture does not change with zoom. On my Sony A100 it does hunt to focus in lower light but easy to switch to manual in these instances. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.
