Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Overview

  • 1Description

Covering a flexible ultra-wide range, the Nikon F-mount 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM from Sigma is a versatile zoom well-suited for landscape, architectural, and interior photography. The lens's optical design incorporates a series of low dispersion and aspherical elements, which help to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range, as well as contribute to improved sharpness and clarity. A Super Multi-Layer Coating is also used to suppress flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Benefitting the imaging attributes, a Hyper Sonic Motor also affords quick and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.

Wide-angle zoom is designed for DX-format Nikon F-mount cameras and provides a 15-30mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/3.5 maximum aperture is suitable for working in available light conditions.
Two Extra-Low Dispersion (ELD) elements and one Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element are featured in the optical design, and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.
Four aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), along with an internal focusing design, realizes quick and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Minimum focusing distance of 9.4" is available throughout the zoom range.
Seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Reviews

10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM Lens for Nikon F is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 123.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent lens I have had this lens for about two weeks now. I am very pleased with the results. It is extremely sharp and is definatly wide enough. This is a true wide angle lens. there is no barrelling, and there is only very slight distortion on the edge. I have ONLY seen this when shooting close up and indoors. Otherwise it is an incredible lens. However, the focus is some what slow. it is sometimes hard to tell if you are focused on the subject or not. this simply takes a little bit of getting used to is all though. If you are thinking of getting a wide angle lens I would really say look no further. for this lens will exceed your expectations as it did mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Lens for the Price I also bought the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR to compare, which runs roughly $100 cheaper. These are both ultra wides. For the money, I found the Sigma superior in quality w/ metal connectors, sturdy body, quality glass and less plastic overall. It's much heavier and larger than the Nikon if this is a factor, which was not for me. Lastly, I did a photo quality comparison test and found at both at f/8 and f/5.6 the Sigma performed with slightly better clarity in lower light. An even bigger benefit is that this drops to f/3.5 making it better in lower light. My first Sigma and I'm thrilled so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens at an even better price! I had multiple people come up to me while shooting the first day I bought the lens and tell me it is their favorite lens they own and they were all right.I bought this lens instead of splurging on the much more expensive Nikon lens and I could not be happier with it. It's great for photos and video and compliments my other lenses well. I use this Sigma along with the 18-55 and 55-200 kit lenses and a 35 MM Nikon lens with my Nikon D3200 and after adding this wide angle lens there aren't many shots I feel I can't get. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to get a wide angle lens, but not spending $ +.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful lens, worth every penny From the first shots I took, I knew I picked a great lens. For the DX camera owner, this is the wide angle to get. You might ask yourself if it's worth the price of the lens for that extra 8mm your kit lens doesn't offer, but you'll be surprised what that tiny number actually means to the angle of view you get. The focus on this lens is extremely fast, even on camera bodies that don't have a focusing motor (D3100, D5000, etc), and the lens can focus at a very close distance. As of right now I have nothing bad to say about the lens. It does everything I want it to do, and I can't wait to use it more and more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't leave home without it! When I first got my hands on a 10-20mm super-wide angle zoom, I was already impressed with it, even though that model was the f4-5.6 version! Then, not much later, this new version came out and I knew I had to get it with the fix f3.5 value! It is a great lens for a variety of purposes! Huge buildings inside and out, parks, wide areas, all just get swollowed up with this glass! My Times Square photos show a much-much larger view than with my standard 18mm lens. Quality is great! Focus is fast, indoor photography is also much easier with the f3.5 speed. It is wider, larger and heavier than the f4-5.6 version, but well built and feels very confortable. Buttom line; If you never had a super-wide angle zoom, get this one, 'cause you're gonna to love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No major complaints from me Solid lens for the price, as usual it would seem coming from Sigma. The ultra wide 10mm focal length, decent zoom range, constant aperture of F/3.5, and satisfying image quality makes this the lens I most highly recommend for you APS-C users out there. The images towards the edges are quite soft at the widest aperture so if you're taking a landscape and want everything pretty sharp I'd go to somewhere around the F/10 mark. For close ups though, I find it safe to widen it up. Also, anyone who complains about the autofocus being slow is nuts... It's LIGHTNING fast in my opinion and usually hits the spot consistently. So go on, what are you waiting for?? Lighten those pockets!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Product at a reasonable price I recently bought sigma 10-20mm for my Nikon D90 and was very much amazed with the result. Even in low-light conditions images were sharp, detailed, clear and ultra-wide (primary purpose of having this lens in your bag). Though there are other products available by other competitors like Nikon 12-24, tokina 11-16 but this one comes at far more reasonable price with a quality to beat any pro-lens. I strongly recommend this lens who is interested in landscape and nature photography.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good performance, very pleased I am very happy with this lens. The 3.5 version is a must, the 4.5 is no good in lower light. Forget it and spend a little more to get 3.5. Ive used Nikor 12-24, and this lens performs almost as well. I do architectural photography and the wide 10 mm is great. Have to be cautious in shot selection that you watch for fisheye effect but many times i shoot at 10mm and the images are fine and if not just go up a little. If cost is a consideration I would go for this sigma 10-20mm over the way more expensive Nikor 12-24.

    question

Can this used with Nikon D3300?
    Asked by: Mariana
Yes, but be aware that there are multiple versions of this lens. Make sure the lens box has the phrase D5300 Compatible on it. There are some focusing issues with the older copies of this lens that requires a firmware update from Sigma.

    question

How good is the autofocus for video? Is it quiet but quick and precise?
    Asked by: Greg S.
I'm sorry Greg, but I rarely use my DSLR for video, and I don't believe I have ever used this lense for video. I'm primarily a landscape and wildlife type of photographer.

    question

Can I use with Nikon D 7200. Do is support auto focus?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Absolutely. I use it with a D7100 and it's a great lens. Be aware, though, that there is an older version of this lens that requires a firmware upgrade to focus properly with D5300, D5500, and presumably, the D7200. The way to tell if you have the new, upgraded version is to check the side of the box for D5300 Compatible . I would assume a high-volume outfit like B&H would exclusively be selling the new one, but it never hurts to check. If you do end up with the older version, it needs to be sent to Sigma for a free firmware upgrade.
