Yankee SL-3 Reviews
It is a cost effective Safelight.
The filter color is hard to pin down, as it could be described as a Red Orange or brownish color, and the company that bought Yankee and a number of other companies is not easily reached. So, just to make sure with mine, I cut a Medium Red gel to fit behind the filter. And no problems with fogging.
Simple and effective
Just what I needed, a simple light ready to install on a cord with an inlet plug. Neat stuff.I love the redish brown color of the filter. Thanks.
Case is thin.
I really don't get why they make the case so thin that you can see the light glow through it. Even if you have the right filter its no use. It will fog your paper. If your planning to buy one i suggest paint the outer case black with a lot of layers so that the light can't just seep through the case. Its just better to buy the metal rectangle safelight casings which I did (no more fogging)
Works great
Buy a 15 watt bulb, it doesn't come with one. Works great.
When you're in the dark
I have a gang darkroom with multiple printing rooms, with two of these safelights on fixtures about 8ft from the ground in each room. They're about 6ft away from any working space. Coupled with any 15watt safelight bulb, it provides a lot of illumination. I use both frosted and regular bulbs, and they work perfectly fine. Provided amber filter is good for my Ultrafine and Ilford papers. I've got no complaints. These safelights are great.
Film
