Manfrotto 1052BAC-3 Overview

  • 1Description

This is a Manfrotto Alu Air-Cushioned Compact Stand Quick Stack 3-Pack. Each stand rises to a maximum height of 7.75' (2.3 m), and is air cushioned. Formerly known as a "Stacker", these stands now have what is called the QSS - Quick Stand System. When folded, these 3 stands may connected to each other to ease storage or transport.

Air cushioning protects fingers and mounted equipment. If the stand sections are not sufficiently tightened, mounted equipment eases down to minimum height instead of slamming down suddenly.

    Manfrotto 1052BAC-3 Reviews

Alu Air-Cushioned Compact Stand Quick Stack 3-Pack (Black, 7.7') is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great stacker idea / weak plastic I'm a cinematographer that bought this kit to use with my LED lights. I have a custom pelican case and these happen to fit inside it perfectly along with the lights. They handle adequate weight and seem sturdy enough. However, the biggest reason I purchased this kit was for the stacker or clicakble way the three stands come together for storage, but this feature is entirely dependent on a small and weak plastic hook that once it breaks you can't stack them anymore. After only 1 week of delicate in-studio handling, these hooks broke on 2 of the 3 stands. This is entirely unacceptable and I think Manfrotto missed the mark on these. If they made these hooks out of metal maybe I reconsider. 2 stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Stands with reservations These are nice stands, like all Manfrottos, but seem less than claimed. First, didn't notice until I got them, but the three-pack is not the same as when purchased separately. Look closely at the images and you'll see the threesomes don't have the removable, reversible stud on top, but a fixed one like the cheaper versions. So, I'd at least get them individually. Also, the air cushioning -- awesome on my 13' Manfrottos -- seems non-existent on these. Maybe the plastic clamps in place of metal causes enough friction that the cushioning never shows up. I returned these and bought cheaper ones that should be just as good.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great stack - poor lock! I love these Alu Air-Cushioned stands. Its unique design allows me to store 6 of these stands in my roller bag...with the normal light stands, I could just fit 3. Sadly the hooks are of bad quality and although I did not break any, it was delivered to me with a broken hook which could be a sign of things to come. It will still stack but it just does not lock in place. This is not a big problem for me since I have them stacked in a roller bag but if you need to transport them by hand, the locking mechanism is important. Finally, this is a Manfrotto is expensive and it is supposed to be durable and reliable. This is NOT what I expected from this brand. As I said, I love these stands but if you are relying on the locking mechanism to keep them together...don't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light stand for strobist shooters I have a pair of Manfrotto 001B's, the original Strobist stand, and it works well indoors. But once you take that stand outside or raise it up past 6 feet, you'll be praying for a break with the wind gods. The 1052BAC is an excellent stand for small flashes. Very sturdy, wide base, well built, easy on the hands when tightening/untightening, and best yet: it packs well! This is a very nice upgrade for anyone wanting a sturdy stand. Also, 1052BAC. These stands are exactly the same with the added benefit of don't believe the previous reviewer who said that the stands in the 3-pack aren't the same as the individual being slightly cheaper when purchased in a 3 pack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I hope they will be good Had to send them back as soon as I received them. The tab that locks them together on one of the stands was broken when they arrived. Although the looked great, felt sturdy, love their size, just can't give them any additional stars until I actually get to use them, which will now be 2 weeks later. I also purchased the Manfrotto LBAG90, 35.4. Bag arrived with no damage! It fit the stands perfectly. Some say they also put in umbrellas, etc. but it seems to fit just the stands. I would have liked them to be an additional 2 inches longer., They are very tight against the zipper, but we'll see how it holds up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very light stands, happy with them. I'm happy with the stands. The only issues is with just openings them on of the snaps the keeps the 3 stands together broke. I NEEDED them so I keep them away. Just have to remember when locking them the the broken goes on the end.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bang for your buck Great set of stands and perfect for on location work. These are sturdy enough to support a medium sized softbox and it's great that they can stack together for easier storage. I give them 4/5 because like others have said, they do have a tendency to sag under a little weight. Not a big deal and it doesn't impact their performance. I ended up putting a strip of 1/4in electrical tape down one side of the center column which gives it a little extra traction to prevent them from sagging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! Love the portability of these lightstands. They are well built and the quality its just obvious. They are not heavy at all and assembly is really easy. I like a lot the stack system. Excellent buy.

The load capacity specs state 11lbs. Has everyone found that to be true or have lights of lesser weight still been an issue? What is considered pushing the limit ?
    Asked by: Shavonn B.
Good question. I spent too much time worrying about this. I shopped around locally ALOT to determine what is the most sturdy. I bought these stands and LOVE them. Now, I don't have them loaded to limit (using LED constant lighting and flash guns) but I love these stands because they are built well, they are light and the cushioning works really well. I didn't like a lot of the other stand I saw, because they were either too big, to heavy or to cheap. These stand also lock together into an easily transportable system. Pretty cool.

I am about to purchase the Manfrotto 1052BAC-3, but heard that the top is different if I just purchased and Manfrotto 1052BAC in a single stand? Can you clarify.
    Asked by: Paul S.
The stands are exactly the same. The only difference is three of them versus a single. Hope this helps. Cheers
