Epson EX51B Overview

The Epson EX51 Professional Multimedia Projector is a very affordable projector with some very sophisticated features. At 2500 lumens and a 2000:1 contrast ratio it's got plenty of projection power for large rooms that are less than theater-dark.

It's got the projection flexibility you'd expect in a more expensive projector. From its native resolution of XGA (1024 x 768) it can resize PC and Macintosh resolutions both lower and higher. It can project in NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL60 and SECAM and it can also project in 720p and 1080i high definition. What's more, it's got an HDMI input so your high definition images can stay in digital form from their source into the EX51B. To complete the picture it's got a 100-240VAC power supply

Two USB ports add valuable convenience features. A Type B USB 2.0 port allows you to attach the included USB cable to your PC or digital camera for JPEG slideshows. You can also use the Type A USB 2.0 port for JPEG slideshows from a USB thumbdrive so you won't have to lug your computer with you.

The EX51's has features to help keep it secure. Password protection, your personalized startup logo and button lock help prevent unauthorized use while a cable attachment (cable not included) and a slot for an optional Kensington lock maintain physical security.

The energy-efficient E-TORL lamp helps keep down total cost of ownership. It's about 20 percent more efficient than most projector lamps right out of the box. Use it in ECO mode and projector total energy usage drops 20 percent and lamp life extends from about 4000 hours to 5000 hours. And fan noise drops from 37 dB to 29 dB.

The EX51B can be permanently mounted in front, ceiling and rear projection setups. But if you don't mount it permanently you'll appreciate a final touch included in the package: the EX51B comes with its own carrying case.

2500 Lumens and a 2000:1 Contrast Ratio
That's plenty of projection power for presentations in a large classroom, lecture hall or meeting room or watching a DVD or Blu-ray disc in your media room, even with a fair amount of ambient light.
3LCD 3-Chip Technology
3LCD technology delivers sharper and brighter images with superior grayscale detail. Smooth, seamless color combined with an unparalleled grayscale range delivers incredible detail to every image displayed by the EX51. Grayscale is the shades of gray (from black to white) required for greater image depth and detail; it allows greater variation in shadows and brings superior accuracy to color, creating a jaw-dropping, true-to-life visual experience.
World Ready
The EX51B has a power supply that's compatible with 100-240VAC at 50/60 Hz. In addition to NTSC (the North American standard) it can handle the NTSC 4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL60 and SECAM video standards. And of course it can project crystal clear 720p and 1080i high definition signals along with more than 30 PC and Macintosh resolution/refresh rates.
Two USB Ports for Two Convenience Features
The EX51 has two USB ports for two different reasons. USB Plug 'n Play instant connectivity makes setup a breeze. Unlike traditional projectors that use USB only to give you mouse and keyboard control over your presentation, the EX51's Plug 'n Play feature allows you to use a standard USB cable (included) to connect to your PC (or digital camera) for instant projection. That feature uses a USB Type B port (the smaller, square one). Its PC-free slideshow function allows you to view JPEG formatted presentations or photos, without a computer, via any USB thumb drive plugged into its USB Type A port (the rectangular kind). You'll never be tied to a PC again.
HDMI All-Digital Connectivity
Most projectors nowadays can project in high definition. But most have only analog composite or component video inputs. They're not bad but they're not HDMI, the all digital signal path that keeps your picture pristine, pure, and crisp from your source to your projector. HDMI ports are not standard equipment on all projectors yet and they're all but unheard of on a projector this affordable.
200 Watt E-TORL UHE Lamp
Epson's E-TORL lamp's innovative design makes it smaller, cooler running, more efficient and brighter than an ordinary lamp. Instead of one conventional parabolic reflector The E-TORL (Epson-Twin Optical Reflector) uses an elliptical reflector combined with a twin sub-reflector that collects light that would have otherwise been lost. This design achieves a 20 percent improvement in efficiency making the light output brighter and reducing waste heat. This means fan noise is reduced and lamp life is increased.
ECO Mode Lowers Operating Costs and Fan Noise and Lengthens Lamp Life
When you need to punch through a lot of ambient light or project a big image from a long distance (or both) you'll appreciate the EX51B's High Brightness mode. But when you can dim the lights a bit more or project a slightly smaller image (or both) you can save money using the projector's ECO mode. Overall energy usage drops from 280 watts to 228 watts and lamp life is increased by 25 percent to 5000 hours. Fan noise drops from 37 dB to a whisper-quiet 29 dB. In standby mode the projector draws a mere 0.3 to 2.6 watts.
Native XGA Resolution (1024 x 768) Resizes Flawlessly
In addition to its native XGA resolution the EX51B's image can be resized to VGA (640 x 480), SXGA (1152 x 964), WXGA (1280 x 800), WSXGA (1440 by 900) and SXGA+ (1400 x 1050)
Easy Image Control
You can adjust vertical keystone automatically ±11°, in manual mode you can adjust it ±30° while you can also take advantage of the 1.2x manual zoom to quickly achieve the perfect image.
Security Features Protect Your Investment
You can password protect the projector and create and save your own starting logo to identify the projector as yours. You can also lock the buttons so settings can't be inadvertently changed. For physical security there's a cable attachment point (cable not included) and a slot for an optional Kensington security lock.
