    Epson V600 Reviews

    excellent slide scanner

good image correction except for dust off, which removes more than dust. Distant streetlights lost. Don't need that anyway with a decent editing program.

So far I like my Epson Perfection V600 scanner

I am very satisfied so far with using my scanner - it produces very good quality images from my slides and negatives. My biggest complaint is that the instructions that come with the scanner aside from getting me started left me lacking for more. I needed to consult YouTube for help. A more extensive/complete user-friendly guide should be offered in the package and I don't mean having to rely on my computer for it.

Big Problems with Windows 10, 64-bit

This V600 scanner works very well with its own software to produce a jpg or pdf image. HOWEVER, there is no 64-bit driver available for this or any other machine. Without the driver, there is no TWAIN support and the use of other software becomes extremely cumbersome. It's extraordinary that Epson hasn't written the necessary software for a 64-bit driver, the current operating system for almost all new Windows computers these days. Such a driver should load automatically with the installation on a computer with 64-bit operating system. Too bad, it ruins an otherwise fine scanner.

I scanned a medium format negative from 1995. I was never satisfied with the print I was getting in my darkroom. I scanned the neg on the Epson V600. Voila a perfect image. Very satisfied.

    The Jury is Still Out

I'm using this scanner specifically for medium format 120 film. So far, it's been okay. I have had mixed results so far from a sharpness perspective, trying a couple different ways to try to get the negative sharp on the scanner. I have been going through a lot of different online threads and groups regarding this scanner and the jury is still out for me. The included plastic negative holders don't seem to keep the film flat, especially when come a bit curled up from the lab after development. I've read people using all sorts of techniques to get sharp images but part of me just doesn't want to spend more time and money into trying other accessories. I just want it to work consistently. Maybe it's that my images aren't 100% in focus. Just from my anecdotal searching, it seems the majority of opinions I've come across state that their images aren't the sharpest coming out of this scanner. However, some people love their results. It's really hard to say for me at this point. I think from a functional perspective it works great - it connected easily to my computer. Epson Scan 2 scans very quickly. For the cost, I am not sure if I can complain too much about it. I also looked into dslr/mirrorless scanning but the cost of that is exponentially higher than this. I did a very basic test with a homemade contraption that pushed light into a negative, and shot the negative with a mirrorless camera. It seemed that it was a bit sharper - but is it worth the hundreds to thousands more of expenses having to buy another camera (I don't have a high resolution one that's recommended), a whole setup, etc.? I am not sure yet. My personal recommendation is this - seek out various methods for scanning before just jumping into this scanner like I did.

Good replacement for my old V500

I bought this to replace my six year old Epson V500 for use on a new Windows 11 platform. It works just as well with a bit faster speed. I like having it for both sheet/page copying and preserving negatives and slides. Epson provides great tech and driver upgrade support. Highly recommended.

Since this scanner doesn't work in Indian power conditions of 220v, can you please share an alternative scanner that would come close to the Epson Perfection V600, in terms of quality and price?Thank you

Below is a link to a recommended alternative scanner that can be used in any region, and is able to be exported (Epson actually prohibits us from exporting their products out of the USA also). See the link below for details on the scanner:http://bhpho.to/1pigA9Z

    question

I am trying to decide what scanner would be best for me and this one seems to have everything I need. I will be scanning 35mm negs and slides, but the bulk of what I want to scan are glass plate negatives. the vast majority of them are in the 4x6 range. Is the transparency window on this scanner large enough to handle these?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Unfortunately, the transparency window would not be large enough for this. You could go with the Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner (B&H # EPPV750M), though.

Will this scanner work with windows 11?
    Asked by: Gary
I bought the V600 on the understanding that it would work with Windows 11. However, this is not the case. I downloaded and installed the software/driver recommended by Epson, but the scanner will not communicate with my computer. The computer recognizes the device, and indicates the device is working correctly. But, for whatever reason, when I run the Epson Scan software, I get the error message "Cannot communicate with the scanner." I have spent the best part of a day trying to figure out how to make this work, but with no success.
