The N5500 Dual DOM with Dual Protection Hard Drive Enclosure from Thecus is a NAS storage enclosure, capable of accommodating up to (5) 3.5" hard disks. It supports a variety of RAID levels, including RAID 0, 1, 5, and 6. Advanced RAID features, including multiple RAID volumes, online RAID expansion, online RAID migration, and auto rebuild are also available.
You'll be able to configure the device for use in NAS, DAS, and iSCSI environments. Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with load balancing, failover, and link aggregation with 802.3ad connect the enclosure to your computer system or network. The enclosure's dual-DOM design, in which an extra DOM is installed, ensures continuous and flawless operation.
The N5500 supports multiple file systems, including XFS, EXT3, and ZFS, and can host multiple RAID volumes, each with its own discrete file system. These volumes can also be encrypted for enhanced data security. The N5500 supports iSCSI initiators, allowing you to transfer data over Ethernet at fast speeds without having to incur the costs associated with Fibre-Channel technology.
In addition to providing simple network storage, the enclosure supports a variety of additional features. These include its ability to act as an iTunes server, sharing a single library of music among the computers in your home network, as a photo web server, or UPnP AV streaming. This allows it to act as a digital media hub, allowing digital devices in your home to access media directly from a central location.
The system can even serve as an IP camera surveillance server, allowing you to monitor cameras in your home or office to keep tabs on security. An LCD panel is present to notify you of critical information, and an intuitive web-based GUI, written with AJAX technology, allows you to configure the storage system.
