The high-resolution SD980 IS with 12.1 megapixels, a 24-120mm (35mm equivalent) lens with a 5x optical zoom, delivers sharp, detailed images assisted by Canon's Optical Image Stabilization that controls camera shake. The SD980 IS is equipped with Smart AUTO technology which analyzes shooting conditions and automatically selects appropriate settings based on 22 pre-defined shooting situations stored within the camera, ensuring consistently accurate exposures even if the subject is moving.
The PowerShot SD980 IS can record video in high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). Movies and still images can be played back on a HDTV via the camera's mini-HMDI connector. The camera is compact and lightweight, fitting easily in a pocket or purse.
Touch Panel Technology
Just touch your finger to the 3.0-inch PureColor System LCD panel and the PowerShot SD980 IS responds. When shooting you can choose an AF point, select a shooting mode, operate the flash, set exposure compensation and more. Playback functions are also performed at your touch: switch between images, scroll display, magnify a portion of an image and control movie playback.
PureColor System LCD
The PowerShot SD980 IS's PureColor System LCD screen provides an alternative to dials and buttons. With Active Display technology, a quick shake or tilt of the camera prompts images to play back, one after the other. When the camera is tilted while advancing the images, the advance speed changes according to the tilt angle. Additionally, by quickly moving the camera forward, you can jump between Focus Checker frames when reviewing still images. Using the same action, you can pause or restart a movie currently playing.
Instant Creative Control
With the SD980 IS's Smart AUTO mode, the proper settings are selected for the camera based on 22 predefined shooting situations. Even if your subject is moving, Canon's Smart Auto captures a scene by using Servo AF/AE technologies that retain focus and exposure until you're ready to shoot.
5x Zoom and 24mm Lens
Despite its small size, the camera is equipped with a 5x Optical Zoom with an ultra wide-angle lens with a focal length of 24 - 120mm (35mm equivalent).
Optical Image Stabilization
Even at the long end of the zoom, images are clear and steady thanks to Canon's Optical Image Stabilization that controls camera shake.
HD Movies
The PowerShot SD980 IS lets you record video in high definition (1280 x 720 pixels). The camera also makes it easy to enjoy HD movies (and still photos) on your HDTV with a mini-HDMI connector for direct connection to a high-definition monitor.
