Sanken COS-11D Overview

The black COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone, Phantom Only with XLR Connector from Sanken is a subminiature lav mic designed to deliver clear, full-bodied sound and reliable performance, making it a popular choice among industry professionals in broadcast, TV, theater, film, videography, and more.

The COS-11D is RF shielded to eliminate interference issues and ensure a pristine audio signal, while the microphone capsule features a rectangular design that sits vertically, increasing the surface area and allowing little mic to offer a rich, full sound that outperforms many larger models.

The mic's 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response rolls-off extreme low end and provides accurate, transparent audio reproduction with a small presence boost in the 6 kHz area for crisp, intelligible speech. With a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound in a 360° pattern, levels stay consistent—even when the subject turns away from the mic.

A water-resistant mesh screen protects against humidity, perspiration, makeup, bad weather, and other potential on-location issues, while the durable cable is also moisture-resistant and built to stay soft and pliable even after extended use. This version of the COS-11D terminates in a standard 3-pin XLR connector for use with a wide variety of audio gear able to supply 48V phantom power for the mic. A metal windscreen, holder clip, rubber mount, and plastic case are included.

XLR Connector
Compatible with a Wide Variety of Professional Audio Gear
This version of the COS-11D features a 9.8' cable with a XLR 3-pin connector. The mic works with mixers, cameras, camcorders, portable audio recorders, interfaces, and a wide range of audio gear able to supply 48V phantom power.
Broadcast-Quality Sound and Dependable Performance
Subminiature Mic with a Big Sound
The camera-ready COS-11D features a subminiature capsule that enables the microphone to be inconspicuous and easily disguised in clothing or costumes. The unique vertical diaphragm design offers a clear and natural sound optimized for the human voice.
Ample Headroom for Speech and Vocals
This version of the mic is able to handle standard speech and vocals at levels up to 127 dB SPL.
Omnidirectional Polar Pattern
The forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern picks up sound from all around the mic and provides a consistent frequency response, even for off-axis sound. This helps to supply clear, intelligible speech and vocals, even when the talent isn't speaking directly toward the microphone.
Tough, Water-Resistant Construction for Indoor/Outdoor Locations
The water-resistant front mesh screen provides reliable protection from perspiration and moisture, making the mic a solid performer in all kinds of weather. The rugged cable is also built to resist moisture and handling noise and stay pliable even after repeated uses.

This microphone requires 48v Phantom Power. You would need to use an active XLR adapter, of which there are many to choose from, or a simple Phantom Power Supply. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/577469-REG/PSC_FPSC0001_48_PHantom_Single.html

question

Is it possible to connect this XLR system into Wireless EW Sennheiser? What would be the appropriate adapter ?
Asked by: marcelo
The Sanken COS-11D miniature omnidirectional lavalier mic with XLR output will not work with a Sennheiser EW wireless transmitter. You would actually need it to be wired with a 3.5mm male, trs locking connector. We currently carry the COS-11D wired for the Sennheiser EW wireless system. The B&H catalog number is SAC11WNSETRB.

Is there an option to connect it to a XLR input ...

Is there an option to connect it to a XLR input camcorder? Also will it work with my phone's 3.5mm headphone port?
Asked by: Jared
A Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, BH #ROVXLR, will allow you to plug this mic into a camera with XLR input, which would be able to provide 48 volt phantom power to the mic. To connect this to a smartphone, you would adapt the end to TRRS with a Rode SC4 3.5mm TRS Female to 3.5mm Right-Angle TRRS Male Adapter Cable for Smartphones, BH #ROSC4. The smartphone will power the mic in this case.

Are these locking 3.5mm / ⅛in connections compatible with the Saramonic uwmic9? The wireless receiver has a bit of a lip around the outlet…
Asked by: J Perry
Saramonic seems like copy of Sony system so most probably will not work because wiring is not the same. It can be expensive gamble.

I bought this one. I have a question. If i connect sony transmitter this without phantom power, is it operating?
Asked by: Lee
The COS-11D requires 3 to 10V of plug-in power, not phantom power. Phantom power is higher voltage of 12 to 48V. The Sony transmitter will supply the proper amount of plug-in power needed for the COS-11D.
