Canon 3562B001 overview

  • 1Description

The Canon Tripod Mount Ring D for IS 100mm F/2.8L Macro Lens is designed for the new Canon 100mm f/2.8L macro lens with Image Stabilization. The ring holds the lens more securely than if the camera is mounted on the tripod. Made of a lightweight metal that matches the color of the lens (black), the mount ring is very helpful in extreme close-up photography, where the slightest vibration will show up in your photo.

Canon 3562B001 reviews

Tripod Mount Ring D for IS 100mm f/2.8L Macro Lens is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon Mount Ring D for 100mm MACRO This product provides a stable support for the EF 100mm f2.8L MACRO IS USM lens. There were no problems with attaching the lens with mounting ring attached directly to a Canon 50D MkII outfitted with with Battery Grip BG-E6 (despite warnings of clearance issues in the Macro lens user guide). Although this product is expensive, the build quality is excellent, and is a worthy addition to a high quality lens such as this. Certainly the option to mount the lens directly to a tripod to help offset the size and weight of the 50D Mk II and Battery Grip combination offers added flexibility and shooting options for close-up and copy work. I would highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product This is an excellent product and well worth its price. The ring easily fits on the lens and rotates smoothly. It has a protective inner coating or lining which is likely intended to prevent damaging the surface of the adjacent lens especially when rotating the barrel. The tripod mounted ring allows for easily switching between horizontal and vertical frame orientations without adjusting the tripod head as well as making compensatory adjustments to an off-axis horizontal or vertical lens alignment as can occur when the tripod is placed on uneven ground. It is a solid device, and the lens appears to be securely mounted on the tripod.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Simply not worth the cost For those of you with a Canon 100-400 or 70-210, how much did you pay for the mount ring on those lenses? Zero. This is the equivalent of paying $ for a proprietary lens cap. This ring should be in the box with the lens. It is useful for switching quickly from landscape to portrait, but I could easily do without it. Mount your camera directly with this light lens, and make better use of your money elsewhere.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Essential for studio closeup It's the only tripod mount ring by Canon that works on the 100mm f2.8 macro IS L. 1. Only problem is that if you are using a Canon 1 series or anything with a vertical/battery grip, there's a chance that mounting it to the tripod requires that you attach the camera first, then mounting the camera to the lens. There's very little space between the mount ring to the grip. 2.Need to buy an extra ring to be able to use the two Canon's macro light (the MR or the MT). But this is the only option...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works well but..... The product works as it is intended and is very good build quality. With that said I would NOT waste the money on this product. It is way to expensive for what it is and is not at all necessary due to the fact that the lens is extremely light. Save your money for something that will be of far more use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Should have come with lens To the reviewer worried about completely closing with out lens, and closing with a slight gap when on lens: The ring is not supposed to completly close, with no gaps. The slight gap allow you to adjust tension. I Rate it 5 stars for quality, 1 star for price. This tripod ring costs about 50% more than previous Canon tripod rings I've purchased. Thus it's 3 star rating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some tools you just have to have. After doing commercial photography for 40 years, you learn some tools are just necessary to get the job done correctly and quickly. I work off tripods and studio stands to insure sharpness and good depth of field, but constantly fiddling with a tripod head to change from vertical to horizontal and back again when you have a lot to accomplish, becomes inefficient. I use a Manfrotto 410 geared head for tilts, but when it comes to camera rotation, nothing beats the convenience and speed of the mount ring. I agree that Canon should include the Mount Ring with the lens as it did years ago, but when you consider projected years of use, the cost is not that bad. I use mount rings on their 180 macro and 70-300 lenses and would not consider doing a job without them. If you want to hand hold everything, you don't need it, but if you are after consistency, convenience, and more predictable results, it is hard to beat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Bit High Priced Great Canon quality. Very rugged and well built. I felt the price was a bit too high, but what can you do on an item like this except pay the price if you want one or need one. Mounted on a ballhead tripod with my Canon 50D and the Canon 100mm f2.8L IS Macro Lens it feels comfortable and easily manuvered, but the balance seemed a bit off which is not the tripod ring's fault. Anyway it works great and serves its purpose very well.
