Darker than the photo
The quality and sturdiness is superb... However it is more of a dark charcoal grey than a whale gray. Nothing like the photo. I am keeping it but looking for a lighter grey.

Worth the money
The material is sturdy weight cotton and the pattern is an even mottled medium gray. One end has grommets and the other a slot for a crossbar. This background comes folded and you can release most of the wrinkles and fold seams by hanging it up and spraying it with water from a clean garden pump sprayer and letting it dry. I store this background by rolling it up on a piece of 10 foot PVC pipe which helps keep wrinkles to a minimum. When I need to do a shoot with it, I hang it with clamps from my cross bar and give it a light spray of water from my garden sprayer to release most remaining wrinkles. The wrinkles that are left easily disappear from f4.0 to f1.4 where I like to operate and produce a background that looks a lot like more expensive canvas in my images. With proper care, storage, and water spray as a wrinkle release this background has made me a believer in muslin as an option for studio backgrounds. It also comes with a sturdy storage bag which I use for lugging grip equipment around. I will be purchasing more Backdrop Alley muslin backgrounds.

Good background

Great for Chruch Directory Backdrop
I used the Whale Gray backdrop for church directory images. It was a little dark without a backlight on it but was perfect with a light on it. It had a sharp crease down the middle from being folded, but I got that out by ironing it on the back side. The 10 x 12' size is good for large famiy groups. Small wrinkles easily disappered with a steamer.

Great backdrop, good neutral color.
I bought this as my first backdrop and I went with whale gray b/c I couldn't afford to buy many different colors. This was a nice neutral gray and the quality of the fabric is good too. It's not 100% wrinkle free but its pretty good and it does come with a nice carrying bag. Recommend.

Has a little bit of the 'Old Masters' look.
I've only had it a couple of weeks so I haven't used it in a studio session, yet. I have done some test shots using a neighbor and a Teddy bear and it looks really good from those shots. Probably will be my go to for portraits. Very impressed with the look.

Lovely backdrop!
I like this backdrop very much. There is a bit more dimension to the painted fabric than a solid gray backdrop, which appeals to me. It creates a more artistic look than a commercial fashion look. I'm excited to collect more of these backdrops in different colors. They will be very versatile.
