Manhattan LCD HD071A overview

  • 1Description

Manhattan LCD's HD071A 7.1" HD Pro Monitor is a widescreen LCD monitor featuring a bright, high-resolution 1024 x 600 screen that makes focusing on-location images a breeze. With its advanced color controls, multiple inputs (dual HDMI, component, composite, VGA), anamorphic 16:9 image and 1:1 pixel mapping, the HD071A is bigger, sharper, and more versatile than any in-camera LCD screen. Whether shooting run-and-gun with a video DSLR or lofting your rig high on the end of a jib, now you can frame and focus your HD images with confidence--and on a budget you can afford.

The HD071A includes a special aspect ratio for the Canon 50D, 60D, 5D, T2I, and T3I cameras. These popular cameras are difficult to use with standard field monitors, as the cameras' preview and record modes require a custom aspect ratio to display the picture without distortion. The HD071A's "DSLR Rec" is an automatic aspect ratio that corrects Canon DSLR record and preview modes, providing a proper picture.

The monitor's False Color feature transforms video brightness to a colored scale that helps the operator in setting a camera's exposure. As the camera's exposure is adjusted, the picture changes colors based on brightness levels. Once this setting is locked in, you will know you are getting suitable exposure without expensive equipment.

Peaking (focus assist) shows you the position of the camera's focal plane. As you rack the focus back and forth you can see objects come in and out of focus by way of a bright white outline. Other convenient features include upgradeable firmware, NTSC/PAL auto-detect, and two 1/4"-20 mounting threads - one on top, one on bottom, for increased versatility.

Other convenient features include upgradeable firmware, NTSC/PAL switchability (with auto-detect), and two 1/4"-20 mounting threads. An optional sun hood is also available.

The monitor is completely digital, from the TFT screen to the driver board. High-speed triple ADC supports NTSC/PAL/SECAM, including all substandards. There's an adaptive five-line comb filter, and it processes at 1 billion colors
The HD071A is software upgradable so you can take advantage of new features being added as the software evolves.

    Manhattan LCD HD071A reviews

HD071A 7.1" HD Pro Monitor is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Do you really need an external monitor? Used for a canon 60d mounted to a dslr rail system. I have to say that the monitor was not as useful for achieving focus as I had hoped for. Reason being, the 60D as well as the t2i and 5DMKII output 480p in record mode. That's not the end of the world but the one million dot LCD on the 60d will give you better focusing abilities than a standard def external. If this is for a 7D, they output HD in rec mode. I could see this monitor being more useful then. The build quality is as good as it needs to be for the price. Its a bit thick which is a downfall and there so much space on each side of the screen which is kind of lame. But with that said, not bad for the money and should work well if needed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from NICE, But heftier than other models. Looks great and has a nice menu system. It is a bit thicker than other models on the market. it feels hollow. But the build quality is OK. Should come with the sun shade as standard though.
