The Monovid's 8x optical system features a phase-corrected roof prism and lenses with HDC and AquaDura coatings, to maximize light transmission and deliver a bright, sharp image. Inside the Monovid's cylindrical leather carry case there's a special pocket for a very special attachment – a close-up lens that allows 8x magnification at distances as close as 9.8". Its aluminum housing is nitrogen-filled to prevent internal fogging in any climate, and it is sufficiently watertight to withstand being submerged to a depth of more than 16 feet with no ill effects.

Leica Monovid Reviews

addendum to my previous review

PS... just an after thought to my previous post..but, the Monovid 8x20 works really well with the Orion 2x54 bino with its amazing 36 degree FOV with 2x magnification..using the orion 2x54 to get a general feel for whats out there, then when something interesting comes into view use the 8x20 monovid for closer inspection... such a killer light weight and versatile combo.. the Orion 2x54 offers such an amazingly sharp large field of view from about 25-40 feet to infinity with their individual ocular focusing. The individual focusing of the Orions makes for the most amazing image, especially if one eye is a lot different than the other, like mine are ( which center wheel focusing binos ( evan swaros) have been somewhat inept to provide. The Orions are marketed towards astronomers but do extremely well for nature/bird watching as well. Bonus...The Alpine Innovations Bino Bandit work extremely well with the 2x54s..even when wearing (low profile) eye glasses.. jmho..

Before making this purchase I tried to convince myself that a cheaper version would suffice. In the end, the small size, incredible optics and well considered design of this monocular won out. I just took this on a trip to Iceland and it was so much fun to use. A great monocular that I know I'll use for a long time.

When I was lookin for good quality for this kind of item, I was thinking for an average price of 100 to 200 dollars no more, but I know the reputation of Leica products for all that I read about, then decided to buy one. I really impressed with the quality of the optic device and also carrying case, with any chromatic aberration. My first use would be for hiking, due the water resistant of 16 feet and fog resistant to use in my country tropical rain forest, but now this tiny thing is with me everywhere. Love the product, little higher price, but for the quality I don't regret. 100% recommended!

Typically high-quality product from Leica. Small and lightweight, so it is more likely to be in hand when you need it.

B&H- fast service and delivery as always. The 8x20 monovid is an amazing piece of glass, super sharp and easy to use. Wish it came with front lens cap and a smaller (even if there was an extra charge for it) leather carrying case like the small zeiss monoculars do for easy pocket carry.

Excellent Optics

After trying several monoculars I finally bit the bullet and shelled out big bucks for Leica quality. I have not been disappointed. This is probably the best monocular out there. I use it to look at architectural features and in art galleries (such as ceiling murals and very large canvasses) and it has not disappointed. I travel a lot to galleries etc around the world and although this monocular is a little larger than I expected (and the case while protective adds to the size) it's still a welcome addition to my work and study of art and architecture.
