The old saying goes that "good things come in small packages." The Samsung P410M proves that "great things can come in small packages." This ultra portable projector measures less than six inches on a side and it's only 2.5 inches high. It weighs about two pounds. Yet it projects at 170 lumens with a contrast ratio of 1000:1 at a native resolution of SVGA (800 x 600).
Its LED light source never needs replacing because it's expected to last the life of the projector—about 30,000 hours. The display panel that forms the picture is a 0.55 inch Texas Instruments Digital Light Processor Digital Micromirror Device just like you might find in a full sized projector costing twice as much.
The P410M can handle NTSC, PAL and SECAM video signals and it can display DVD content using 3:2 pulldown to improve picture quality. It will even accept 720p and 1080i HD signals and downconvert them to its native resolution. And it can accept component video with an optional D-sub 15-pin conversion cable.
But where the P410M really excels is displaying data from a PC, with or without the PC. You see it has a USB port. Plug in your thumb drive and it will project your data in a wide variety of formats, including BMP, GIF and JPEG pictures and MPEG1, MPEG2, MP3, MPEG4, AVI and MOV files among others.
At its tiny size we think the P410M qualifies as an ultra portable projector. Being able to give a complete presentation without having to lug along a laptop lightens your load by many pounds more. Maybe the P410M is in a class by itself. Hyper portable, maybe?
