Benro PL100 Overview

The Benro PL-100 Quick Release Plate is a component that attaches to your camera's tripod screw mount for its easy placement on and off your tripod's head. Tripod heads enable smooth panning and tilting camera movement while mounted on the tripod. It has a 1/4"-20 thread and is compatible with Arca-Swiss type quick release clamps.

Prone to twisting, better alternatives available

I have one of these plates which came with a GH2 Gimbal head. As others have mentioned it does not have three extra holes as shown in the photo. The geometry is fine and it seems to fit all of the Arca clamps I have tried without problem. If you use it with two screws (the intended method of usage with a large lens), it is fine. However, if you need to mount it to a lens with only one mounting hole, or a camera body, the lack of any sort of friction surface (e.g. rubber) on the top of the plate is a problem. In that situation, it is very prone to twisting, even when done up ridiculously tight (which in itself is a problem as it can damage the mount on your equipment), and it could potentially cause a heavy setup to swing around and over-balance. I have also found that the anodized finish on this plate wears much more easily than other brands. The issue is that the price of this Benro product (unlike others) is not much less than other higher-end brands, such as Wimberley, Kirk, RRS, Jobu, etc. I highly recommend carefully considering what you will use this plate for, and buying a plate from one of those brands instead as they all have a better anti-twist design for only a few more dollars. Or even better, if it is for a lens, just buy a replacement Arca foot for the lens from any of the above companies and you have a lighter and much more convenient setup.

Correct part but different (and better) than pictured

This item is correctly identified by the Benro part number of PL-100, however, don't let the photo fool you. The part that arrived was the same that is sold by Benro with their tripods and does not have the three holes as pictured. Don't get me wrong, this was a GREAT surprise and actually what I was looking for. Just don't be put off by the photo.

the plate I received looks a bit different and has only one screw in there. How to add another screw in the plate?
Asked by: Ilya
On one end of the screw slot/groove, there are threads that accept another 1/4"-20 screw (you can kinda see them in the picture, underneath the screw on the right side). Simply screw the second screw into that groove till its neck sits loosely in the slot and you can move both screws around without issue.

question

this plate seem longer than normal. Does it allow camera to put off center on tripod to better balance a heavy lens like nikon 14-24mm, 2.8?
Asked by: Anonymous
It is an Arca-Swiss style plate and works with most of the Benro heads. It is a longer plate and is really used on a lens that has a tripod collar. This way as you mentioned to help balanced the set up on the head.

The two set screws on the other side, can they be removed and if so what is the size of the allen wrench?
Asked by: Martin
Staff, I am not talking about the screws that attach the base plate to the camera or lense mount, I am talking about the two very small screws on each end of the bottom, the seem to be stops of some kind, when mounted to a ballhead, the severely restrict the movement of the camera. I assume they can be removed (one or both) so the base Plate & camera can move in order to balance the camera & lense, am I correct
