The Profoto D1 Air 500Ws 2-Monolight Studio Kit w/o Remote (90-120V & 200-240V) gives you a total of 1000Ws of Profoto digital lighting power, with color temperature and exposure consistency across the entire 7 f-stop power range (thanks to the dual mode SMPS capacitor charging technology). Profoto D1 Air reviews

    D1 Air 500Ws 2-Monolight Studio Kit w/o Remote (90-120V & 200-240V) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good strobes but color temperature cons After purchasing this set and reading all of the glowing reviews I am very disappointed in the color consistency of these strobes. Upon receipt I ran a test and discovered that the strobes fluctuated from around 6100 K at full power to around 5500K at low power, exact numbers were: Head A 10-6160K 9-5950K 8-5790K 7-5700K 6-5700K 5-5600K 4-5490K Head B 10-6080K 9-5940K 8-5770K 7-5750K 6-5740K 5-5620K 4-5540K I sent the heads in for repair, thinking perhaps I had received a bad set and was told by repair that that much color variance, 600 K, is within specs. I was told that with the B1 strobes in normal mode the allowable fluctuation is 150 K from full to low power. So I suppose they are nice strobes but be sure to bring your color meter and gels if color accuracy is much of a concern. I haven't had them long enough to know how they will hold up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dynamic Light The power and control of monolights has evolved of the last 5 years, providing a great source for lighting. The light weight configuration is ideal for most projects allowing you the same use of any modifiers as you would use with pack systems. The self-determining wattage is a great feature if traveling internationally, but the biggest plus is the built in Air receiver (based on model, be sure to see description) meaning you do not need to buy and attach one separately. The 500Ws are powerful enough and controllable making them a dynamic light. And, they make it extremely convenient to travel with instead of sourcing them where I land.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You can't beat this kit. I use these for both headshots/portraits and architectural shoots. These units are compact, light, powerful and rugged. The modeling lights on the B1 units are not powerful enough to reduce pupil size on portraits but the 300W light on these work just fine. The value of this kit is amazing. At time of purchase it was $$less than purchasing all items individually, $$less than buying two D1's separately. The carrying case is very well padded but as other reviewers have said it would not do well as checked airline luggage. If you're thinking about buying two D1's just get this kit as the rest of the products basically come free.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product Excellent light, though I agree with others that the power cords are not the best, nor are the stands, but you save so much money on the lights when buying the kit that it doesn't matter...just buy two new stands (and they aren't that bad, just flimsy).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm sure to buy the D1 air 1000 next I recently naught the D1 air 500 kit and I have used in on about 10 shoots so far and it's been amazing to use . Profoto has up the game making a smaller and lighter unit than the Profoto Compact r. The first thing to note is that the bags are much better designed and built, with custom foam cut out for housing each lights firmly in place. The units are very well constructed In the tradition of Profoto. There is however one ting that you may find annoying and it that units make a constant whistling low tone once it is plugged into the an outlet. This doesn't affect the performance of the unit which can stay plugged in for hours. Lastly be prepared to buy light stands because the ones that came with the kit isn't good enough for rigorous use. Love. The units and will buy again soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great kit but ... I love the D1 Air monolights. They are not heavy, so easy to attach on stands comparing to other brands I have used, they are a cinch to operate, have great built and aesthetics and the speedrings make it effortless to put on and take down softboxes. The lighting is top notch, and you can fire more quickly than with other monolights. I had previously bought two D1 Air monolights with transceiver and several Profoto light modifiers (not as a kit). Nine months later, in need of more lights I went for the kit, as you just cannot beat the value. Unfortunately, the power cables that came with the kit do not snug properly into the monolights, they barely stay attached and tend to fall off easily. I had to send them back to Profoto for their testing. The stands that came with the kit are not as bad as many reviews made me think. They are great stands. I agree that you would not want to use them with a 4'x6' softbox or a 5' octa, but please consider they are part of a kit that includes 2 small umbrellas. This should tell it all. You will be just fine with a small softbox such as a 2'x3'. I have no problems with my 1'x4' strip as well. My only critique would be the transceiver: while it's great to control the lights from afar, I wish it was better designed. Upon purchasing the kit I was pleasantly surprised to receive notification of a Profoto promotion. They will send the buyer a free 2'x3' softbox and speedring with purchase of the 2-Monolight Studio kit, or the beauty dish set with a larger kit. I just received my free softbox and speedring. Awesome! Now I just hope they will send me 2 good power cables.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best lighting there is! I use these lights at my studio and also on location. The light is 100% consistent and the recycle time keeps up with my shooting 100% of the time. I just purchased a second set of the 500s and I recommend them to any professional photographers that have the means. They are not cheap, but truly, you get what you pay for. I would buy these lights again and again. I also shoot with Alien Bees to light my background and although they are also a quality product for the money, there is no comparison in the end result.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lights So far, the lights are working properly. However, a diffuser is definitely needed since the light is very harsh. The units produce an audible hum while turned on. The small umbrellas are useless since they do not diffuse the light very well. I will have to purchase additional larger umbrellas.
