Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ehh at first glance this head is built well. die cast aluminum is great! 6 months down the line the pan got very loose. I contacted Giottos to see if they'll replace and have yet to hear from them. it's still not a bad head for the price range. If i get that pan fixed i'll be back in business.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little video head I use this with my FF mirrorless and long telephoto zoom. It has proven to be a winner with smooth pan and tilt and stable support of the camera. I tried several other big-name brands and models that cost a lot more and this works better than all of them. I really like the machining of the parts and solidity of the head. It is an excellent match for my Promaster tripod. IMO, you will have to spend a lot more to get a much bigger head that works any better than this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More versatile than original ball head I want to do panning on my great Giottos tripod and the nice ball head made this too difficult It was a bit confusing swapping heads - this base plate is much larger than the ball head base plate - I was assured that this will be OK Yes, so far, this is a good panning head and the ball head is best when I use the monopod leg from the tripod

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and Smooth I wanted a light but smooth video head for travel and outdoor excursions. Fits the bill perfectly on my Oben AC-1300 tripod. My Sony PXW-X70 is a perfect fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well for Macro Rig Although the name of this head suggests it is primarily for video work it adapts well for other uses also. A case in point is my use of the Giottos head for my macro setup with twin flash heads (see attached photo). My macro setup consists of an Olympus OM-D E-M1 camera with the 60mm macro lens and two Olympus FL-600R flashes attached to magic arms which are then attached to a custom bracket that mounts on a Novoflex mini focusing rack. This entire assembly mounts on the Giottos head. Prior to using the Giottos head I had attempted to mount this rig on a standard ball head. Whenever I loosened the clamp on the ball head to make an adjustment the rig would be very hard to control due to the considerable weight and the very high center of gravity relative to the ball head. Now with the Giottos head I have complete control. Because it is a video head with only two axes of control the rig cannot tip side-to-side and with the spring tension and fluid damping on the tilt axis and the long handle I can smoothly and easily tilt and pan the rig to the exact position needed. The head locks down firmly and does not creep. I have only had the Giottos head for two weeks so I cannot comment on its long term durability but it certainly meets my expectations for controlling my macro rig at a very reasonable price.
