Formatt Hitech BF 6X4CTC80A4 Overview

The Formatt 6 x 4" 80A Color Conversion Filter is blue. It is used to balance daylight film under artificial, tungsten or standard (household) incandescent lighting.

Let's say you're at a family gathering and you've brought your camera and want to take some photos of this once-a-year gathering. You have traditional daylight balanced film but find yourself in a room filled with table lamps. If left unfiltered, your photos will turn out yellowish. Under certain circumstances, perhaps a nice effect but not flattering in terms of skin tones or what our eyes are used to seeing or expecting. Enter the 80A filter!...

This filter allows you to "balance", i.e. bring back, correct color tone to your images. There is some loss of film speed that may require the use of a tripod but, at least, your photos will demonstrate the proper tonality they so richly deserve.

80 Series Conversion Chart
80A increases color temperature from 3200-5500K (commonly used with 3200K lamps)
80B increases color temperature from 3400-5500K (commonly used with photoflood lamps)
80C increases color temperature from 3800-5500K (commonly used with flashbulbs)
80D increases color temperature from 4100-5500K (commonly used to remove extreme orange or red)
Absorbing Cell Technology
The secret to Formatt's consistency in filter design lies in its unique "Absorbing Cell Technology" (A.C.T.); this unique process allows color correct dyes to be applied to optically pure, wafer thin absorbing cells and offers a controllability that ensures the smoothest grad lines and consistent color across the whole filter surface.
This process is revolutionary compared with conventional filter dying techniques by eliminating the need to directly coat the glass surface itself. The repeatable performance gained through A.C.T. ensures that at any time you have to swap like filters for like filters mid shoot, you can do so with confidence with no discernible differences in color or density.
Each filter is guaranteed flatness to a maximum 2-wave value and comes with an individual reading from a laser interferometer. Every filter is carefully verified with a densitometer and spectrophotometer to ensure consistent and accurate transmission, before leaving the factory - the result is an absolute purity of image that eliminates any unwanted colorcast caused by conventional greenish soda-lime glass.
