QNAP NMP-1000 Overview

The NMP-1000 Network Multimedia Player from QNAP is a set-top box that can be used to display digital video, music, and photos on your TV. It can access media stored on your network via its integrated Ethernet port, and you also have the option of installing your own 3.5" SATA hard drive in the device so that files can be stored locally. You can attach an external hard drive to either of the player's two USB 2.0 ports.

The NMP-1000 can handle popular compression codecs, ensuring that it will play any type of file that you ask it to. It can output full resolution 1080p HD video via its HDMI port, and also features component, composite, and S-Video outputs for TVs that don't have HDMI. A wireless remote control is included.

You'll be able to access several popular Internet media services from the player's menu. You can view Apple movie trailers and Flickr photos, or listen to any number of Internet radio stations. The NMP-1000 even features a built-in BitTorrent client, allowing you to download files directly to the device once you have installed a hard disk.

When an internal hard drive is installed, the player can connect directly to a Windows computer system via eSATA or USB 2.0. Your computer will see the device as a standard hard drive, allowing you to manually load media. Backup software for Windows is included to help with this process. Windows, Mac, Linux, and Unix users can add files over a network via an FTP program or via the browser-based Web File Manager.

The NMP-1000 features the powerful SMP8635 SoC hardware-based decoder, HDMI 1.3 interface, and advanced software decoding technology. The playback of video files encoded in H.264 or the other popular codecs is supported for up to 1080p resolution. Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD multi-channel digital surround are supported to achieve the cinema-grade enjoyment

The FLAC lossless audio files can be natively handled by the NMP-1000 without conversion. The NMP-1000 automatically finds all the digital media files on its internal hard disk or the mounted remote disks on your home network, and organizes them into a categorized library. The navigation tree enables you to sort and search the multimedia files systematically. You can also specify different ratings for the music and video files
User-Friendly Interface
The NMP-1000 is designed with an intuitive graphical user interface. You can customize the home menu background with your selected images or video. A remote control with luminous buttons is provided for you to use it easily in the dark. With the on-box VFD display and the controlling buttons on the machine's front panel, you can configure the system or listen to the stored music without turning on the TV

The NMP-1000 allows you to access the latest Apple movie trailers for upcoming and recent movies and experience the theatrical excitement with your HDTV

The NMP-1000 can be connected to the network with WEP/WPA-PSK encryption through an optional USB wireless adapter (802.11b/g/n) without physical network cables

Advanced NAS Features for Storage and File Sharing
The NMP-1000 supports one 3.5" SATA hard disk (optional), providing up to 2TB storage capacity for saving your digital media. Powerful NAS functions are supported for file sharing across Windows, Mac, and Linux OS. The built-in file server feature allows you to create a user ID, password, and user groups and to define their access rights to the disk data
Direct Media Playback from PCs or NAS on Home Network
The NMP-1000 can mount up to 6 remote disks through SMB/CIFS, NFS, and AFP. You can play the shared files directly from your PC or other NAS devices on your home network. The NMP-1000 can also discover the UPnP/DLNA supported storage devices on the local network, allowing the device to play back media that is stored on them
Backup Utility
The NetBak Replicator backup utility is provided for you to easily backup media files from a Windows PC to the NMP-1000
Remote Access to Your Media Files
The built-in FTP server and the Web File Manager enable you to upload or download media files remotely
Built-In DDNS Support
The NMP-1000 supports dynamic DNS (DDNS) for ease of remote access. You can register a unique domain name from a DDNS service provider and assign it to your player
PC-Less BitTorrent P2P Download
The NMP-1000 is equipped with BitTorrent download engine for continuous P2P download. To access the download interface of the NMP-1000, you can login to the web-based interface by the web browser, or use the Windows or Mac QGet utility provided by QNAP. The download tasks can be managed even if you are away from home
High Performance File Transfer Through eSATA or USB
The NMP-1000 is based on NTFS file system and can act as a mass storage device of a Windows PC. It is equipped with an "eSATA-to-PC" port and a "USB-to-PC" port for direct connection to a PC. The file transfer rate via the eSATA connection is several times faster than that via the Ethernet connection, which saves you lots of time especially when copying large-sized video files
Energy-Saving Solution for Home Theater
The NMP-1000 is equipped with a quiet cooling fan for heat dissipation. You can place it in your living room or anywhere at home and it won't disturb your work or rest. The normal power consumption of the NMP-1000 in operation is less than 17W, which is less than the power consumption of an energy-saving light bulb
