You can also transfer files from the built-in memory to the removable media for upload to your computer or to make room on the camera while shooting.

When it comes to the built-in GPS receiver, the CX550V gives geotaggers a great tool for tagging their video and still images by location. And when you want recall your footage options such as the Map Index give you quick access. Use the camera's GPS to keep things organized in a whole new way, and share video and stills with friends and family online according to the location the footage was taken.

The core features of the HDR-CX550V include everything from a super-powered CMOS sensor and processor to a generous 3.5" LCD display. Adjusting the iris lets you control depth of field, while shutter speed allows for control motion blur. There are a total of 6 settings available: Focus, Exposure, AE Shift, WB Shift, Iris control, and Shutter speed control

    Sony HDR-CX550 reviews

HDR-CX550V 64GB HD Handycam Camcorder is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 76.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Low Light and Great Stabilization The main thing I love about this camera is the 64 GB Flash storage (No DV tapes to mess with!) and the top notch image stabilization. The low light mode gets a little noisy, however in this price range I think it's very acceptable. I'm not a huge fan of the touch screen, but after you use it for a day it's pretty quick to navigate, especially once you set the home screen with your favorite adjustments. A few big downsides are the nasty lens flare when your fully wide. It's a blue dot that is tough to get rid of. The other bummer is that it only shoots at 60i. With all that said, in it's class, I think it has an excellent picture and is very easy to use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice features I use it for my kids' sports and music/dance activities. I like the overall size, the screen size and clarity, and the capacity is fine (normal HD 15-25hrs). I bought the NPFV100 battery as well, which is about 4x the capacity of the battery that comes with it (4hrs vs 1hr), although the battery sticks out quite a bit towards the back. The automatic face-detection stuff is cool, although the still-photos taken are not as clear as a regular digital camera. The wide-angle lens is also a nice feature. The touchscreen interface is awkward to me, I would have preferred using a dial and buttons like older models.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice camcorder I am new to using camcorders and got this to shoot some interviews for a project. I like the Intelligent Auto feature which seems to work well, but you can also assert manual control to improve white balance etc. The images look great. I do wish that there was more control of the audio input however. I'm not a fan of auto gain control. The LCD looks great and altho the menu structure is a bit clumsy it is understandable which is good. The ability to back up images directly to an external HD without needing a PC is very useful I think and seems to work quite well once you get the appropriate Sony cable and format the ext HD to Fat32.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HDR-CX550V 64GB Just got back from a tour of Italy including the Vatican, Coliseum, Forum, Pompeii, Pisa, Venice, and more. Coupled with a 32gb memory stick, I went through 2100 shots and 40gb of memory at HD HQ setting. Even at Top Quality full 1080p I would have had close to 3 hours a day of on the 32gb stick. Low light shots turned out great (venice at night) and extremely easy to handle. Be sure to read the owners manual, as the footage is proprietary, and placing your memory stick/connecting the camera into a computer without the Sony Software spells DISASTER. My only complaint. I wasn't impressed with the GPS and turned it off. May go back later and spend more time with it. We will love this camera for years to come

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent lightweight shooting machine. This is great for interviews and family outings. You're not going to be making a full feature film with this but a music video is well within it's capabilities. The nub in the front for manual focus, aperture, and shutter speed is actually really nice and helpful. Just don't expect film-like DOF effects. The touchscreen is awesome and intuitive. Touch focus and white balance works amazingly well. The external mic on the more expensive pro model is a joke, you can't hold it properly if anything is attached to the accessory shoe. 24p version is coming out soon so if you can, I would wait for that one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great video camera Very pleased overall with this camera. Two things to be aware of with this camera though: 1. If you are doing video editing be ready for the famous On no, now I've got to upgrade my computer! I use CS4 premier pro and wasn't quite expecting it to be so slow editing HD. 2. If you want to use the direct transfer to a portable hard drive be aware that it has to be formatted to FAT NOT NTFS as most are. This is a pain! I had to buy another portable just to use with this video camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Handycam I was able to shoot a day-long (9 hrs) symposium for our Woodturning group. The demonstrator was under a bank of yellow can lights, and the CX550V auto-white balance corrected them perfectly. Folks passing by saw that video on the screen and commented on how viewing it was better than the real life scene. Two of the demonstrators saw the images and asked me to do some videos for them. The stills were also fantastic - sharp, crisp and clear. The shots I took walking around during the sign-in and lunch showed no jitter at all. Image stabilization was great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BY FAR ABOVE ALL MY BETTER EXPECTATIONS! The coolest thing is the image and sound quality. It's also very easy to use with a very intuitive functions menu. It comes with inputs to mic and earphones and that's good when you're going to do interviews capturing extra sound with less ambient noise. The built-in GPS is another great features for those who will use the cam to register their trips around the world. I bought to do little movies and short reports for an website I wanna build. I strongly recomend the purchase and I am very pleased and satisfied that I did so.
