In a nutshell, there is no aperature link between the m42 lens and the K mount camera. You must focus (for brightest view) fully open, read the meter at wide open, stop down to the aperture you desire, calculate the speed, set it and take the picture. It's been a while but if you do a depth of field preview stopped down, that should give you your shutter speed.
