Don Zeck C5 overview

  • 1Description

The Don Zeck Lens Cap is unique in the world of lens accessories. It is the first lens cap designed with an ergonomic handle to help you both place and remove the cap. The advantage of this is obvious.

This cap can be used with a long hood in place. During such times, it can be difficult to use a traditional "snap on" lens cap. Using this particular, cleverly designed cap means that you can set up your long lens (that has a deep hood) and leave the cap on. Yet, when it comes time to actually shoot, all you need to do is grab the neat little handle, pull the cap off and you're ready to shoot. No more having to remove the hood or awkwardly reach inside the hood to try to unhook the cap.

The cap is held in place using six "O" rings that create a tight, perfect fit. In addition, the unique handle will compress to an ultra thin 3/16" when you store your lens in its case.  The "O" rings never touch the lens surface and will not damage your lens. This cap is a thick design and will guard your optics from the damage that we all fear with long (or short) expensive lenses.

Cap can be mounted on the lens while the hood is in the shooting position or in the stored position
Handle allows a firm grip on the cap so that it can be easily installed
Can be used with or without the factory lens hood
An interesting alternative to the traditional "sock" hoods that come with longer lenses

C5 Lens Cap for the Canon 400mm f/2.8 IS, 800 f/5.6 IS (Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from First class all around!! This product is a must have item. Easy to use protects you glass perfectly . you well need to get a lens coat lens sock so the lens well fit in the canon case. Original canon lens cover well not work with Zeck lens cap in place when you place the lens in the case, However with the lens coat sock in place the lens fits into the case perfectly. Thank you Mr Zeck for this great product..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All things covered While it may not score high for looks, it shines in functionality. It fits tight and secure for my needs. I am not sure if I would trust it alone without the lens in a case or bag on a haul, but it is a good solution for my needs. I wanted something to put on the lens while it is in my bag when I travel to and from games and to have handy when I set my equipment down in the press room or on a sideline for any extend period of time. It works great for that. I have even been able to slide it into a pocket on my cargo style pant leg.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The perfect companion At last, an accessory that does exactly what it is designed for. Fits like a glove, giving that all-important massive front element more than adequate protection from the elements. Quick to install and release. Thanks Don Zeck for a first-rate product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick cover/uncover option The standard lens cover supplied with the lens is rather cumbersome to use and you also risk getting fingerprints on the lens when putting it on with the lenshood stowed. The C5 is easy to put on and remove so you do not miss the action.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best cap for super telephotos Canon should give it with their super telephotos, but they don't so buy it at the same time. Unbelievable that a small company makes a better, and cheaper cap than Canon, a major camera manufacturer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from practical improvement This easy to use lens cap prevents dragging around the bulky limp lens hood provided by Canon.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Check these measurements before purchase I recently purchased a Don Zeck hood for my Canon 400mm F2.8L IS lens. According to the B&H website it is part number: B&H # DOC5. Mfr# C5. The Canon lens comes with a big white lens hood (not the lens cap). The lens hood fits over the lens when it is stored in the lens case, i.e. the lens hood is reversed and then the lens slides into the lens hood. When one prepares to shoot, the lens hood is detached from lens, turned around from its reversed storage, and it is attached to the front section of the lens. Also included from Canon is a black leather bag cover that only covers the front end and the big white lens hood. This soft black leather cover is the lens cap. I often shoot sport in harsh light (mid-day) and I always use the big white Canon lens hood that comes with the lens when purchased. I always shoot with the white lens hood attached, especially when I am moving around. The attachment and detachment of the black leather lens cap/bag is time consuming, cumbersome and requires the use of both hands. I purchased the Don Zeck to use as a lens cap when using the big white lens hood in its extended position, instead of using the black leather lens cap/bag, as a lens cap. It is so much quicker using the Don Zeck. The dimensions of the Don Zeck lens cap/plug are not provided on the B&H website. It is NOT possible to attach the Don Zeck lens cap/plug to the front end of the big white Canon lens hood. The hood is too wide. The Don Zeck only fits onto the front end of the lens. The big white lens hood can be attached or detached and the Don Zeck will still fit snugly onto the front of the lens. Putting the Don Zeck lens cap back onto the front of the lens while the big white lens hood is attached to the lens, is NOT nearly as simple as removing the Don Zeck cap. The dimensions of the Don Zeck lens cap are 146mm (5.748inches) inside measurement. And 154mm (6.063 inches) outside measurement. The dimensions of the big white Canon lens hood are 171mm (6.732inches) inside measurement. And 179mm (7,046inches) outside measurement. If you are someone that shoots WITHOUT the big white lens hood, where glare and harsh light is not an issue, then the Don Zeck lens cap/plug is for you. The fit is snug and tight and the attachment / detachment is quick and easy. I wish Don Zeck could make the same great lens cap with an inside plug dimension of 171mm/6.732inches. END.
