Celestron C90 Mak Overview

The compact and highly portable C90 Mak Spotting Scope from Celestron is a powerful spotting scope with a Maksutov-Cassegrain optical path, a 32mm eyepiece, and an erect-image 45° diagonal that also corrects the view laterally. Because the finderscope and the diagonal both provide corrected images, the C90 is an excellent choice for terrestrial as well as astronomy viewing.

The 32mm Plossl eyepiece provides the user with a remarkable 39x magnification. Higher levels of magnification and wider fields of view can be experienced by substituting the included eyepiece with an appropriate 1.25" astronomy ocular.

The C90 comes with an erect image 8x21 finderscope that provides a wider field of view to aid the viewer in locating subjects and targets easily. The finderscope mounts conveniently to the side of the C90's optical tube assembly and removes easily for storage and transport.

The entire system is tripod adaptable—the C90 is equipped with a standard threaded tripod mount that's stable and secure. The rear of the C90 features built-in T-mount threads for mounting an SLR camera, using a user-supplied camera-specific T-ring, for astrophotography or digiscoping applications.

Combine this with a 90 degree star diagonal, red dot finder, and heavy duty alt azimuth tripod and you will be reaching for the stars.

Can B&H staff recommend both a vixen style ...

Can B&H staff recommend both a vixen style dovetail plate and equatorial mount for this telescope? I'm intending to use it for astronomical observation, and other sites recommend the plate/mount conversion for use on a standard tripod, but I'm not sure which size will fit the C90. Many thanks.
Asked by: Merc
They come with a dovetail :) I'm not much of an EQ guy, but check out the smallest offering from Explore Scientific, I forgot what they call it. Also the Celestron CG4 and the Orion Astroview.

is the eye piece upgradable/ can it be changed ...

is the eye piece upgradable/ can it be changed from the 39x magnification to a 60x magnification?
Asked by: Josh
Yes, you can order a different focal length 1.25" eyepiece to change the magnification. To chose which eyepiece yo need, use the formula of FOCAL LENGTH OF YOUR TELESCOPE IN MM (1,250mm) divided by FOCAL LENGTH OF EYEPIECE IN MM = MAGINIFICATION. To find a size that would be exactly 60x may not be economical, however, you could use a common and economical 25mm eyepiece to get 50x, your telescope focal length 1,250mm / eyepiece focal length 25mm = 50x. There are several good videos on YOUTUBE on how to chose an eyepiece.
