Savage V70-0820 reviews

8 x 20' Infinity Vinyl Background--Photo Gray is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from VERY HEAVY, wrinkle-prone, dark grey Many users of Savage Infinity have problems with supporting it without causing wrinkles, due to heavy weight, which makes the cardboard core to dip a bit at the middle, causing V-shaped wrinkles on the backdrop. This wrinkle is most visible on grey backdrop, and less so on white and black, as you imagine.I used 1/2 inner diameter electric conduit pipe to support 8-feet wide 20-feet long roll of it. It still drops at the middle a bit. I probably should use 1 or 3/4 conduit pipe to support the roll. I thought about black pipe (used for gas line) but it's too heavy. Copper pipes are light but they are flimsy. Manfrotto Expan system is entirely inadequate for this.Another problem with wrinkle comes from the clamp used to stop unrolling. Being heavy and more stretching material than paper, wrinkle is created from the point where the roll is clamped. I don't know what other means can be used to stop unrolling without causing wrinkles. Finally, one more cause of wrinkles... the Infinity vinyl roll was rolled with wrinkle pattern already on the roll (you can see it when unrolling on the floor). I don't know if the pattern was created during manufacturing, rolling, or during storage. But some other people also complained about it, so it's not just my roll. It seems more common problem.I bought 8x20 because anything wider is too heavy and/or long .... To me, 10 feet length is too short but 20 feet is more than adequate. I hope they make 9x15 or 10x15 .... I don't need last 5feet length but could appreciate 1 or 2 more feet width. The Infinity grey is darker grey, more like Seal Grey, Smoke Grey or Fashion Grey. If you are used to lighter grey like Cloud Grey or Storm Grey, you'll have to adjust background lighting technique. The grey is nicely dark and non-glare, due to its nice fine texture. But when you wipe the surface with wet cloth (I actually use a sponge mop), the surface remains wet for many minutes and look shiny until the thing dries completely. Beware! This product has fine texture on the surface. It's fine for portrait, fashion and clothing catalog shoot, but the texture probably causes problem with tabletop product photography work. The background smells like cheap shower curtain. You want to keep this unrolled in studio for first 10 days or so to get reduce the odor.OVERALL, if you are handy and willing to go a bit farther to set this up nicely, Infinity Vinyl background is very nice, but it does take more effort, thinking, planning and troubleshooting than hanging up a roll or 9-foot-wide seamless paper. Savage should have done more testing with more studio photographer, so that they could sell this product with more practical recommendations of how best to use it and what difference to expect from seamless paper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Alternative to Paper This product does exactly what it says, it is easy to clean, and look terrific. My only negative is that it is heavy on a ceiling mounted rod, so you have to be extra careful when rolling it out. It could just spool out onto the floor.
