Manfrotto 324RC2 Overview

This 324RC2 Ball Head from Manfrotto has a load capacity of 8.8 lb and can be attached to tripods or other support systems that feature a 3/8"-16 mount. It includes an RC2 quick release cam lock and a 200PL-14 Quick Release Plate. The 324RC2 features a ball-and-socket joint with an easy-to-grip control handle. By squeezing the control handle's integrated trigger, the ball-and-socket joint can be quickly swiveled, angled, fully tilted, or returned to its upright position. A thumbwheel set within the underside of the control handle can be rotated to apply tension control to the ball-and-socket joint's movements. Once the squeeze trigger is released, any adjustments to the position of the ball-and-socket joint are locked into place.

Cameras or accessories that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the 200PL-14 quick release plate, which measures 1.7 x 2.1 x 0.4" and has a rubberized, non-slip surface. The 324RC2 is initially configured for use with the right hand. An included hex key allows the RC2 quick release cam lock to be repositioned along with the control handle, enabling left-handed use.

Manfrotto 324RC2 Reviews

Does not fully stabilize camera

Overall, I liked the ease of movement of this head with the pistol grip. However, the absolute dealbreaker for me is that the head cannot stabilize a camera pointed just slightly downward from horizontal. The lens and camera combo becomes too heavy for the head (I weighed my combo in at 6 pounds, so it came in under load capacity) and the entire camera and lens slide downward. This becomes a major worry, because with the weight shift downward, it could easily knock a whole tripod over if it wasn't stabilized properly for this weight shift. I also tried adjusting the friction knob and the hex screw in the handle, but that did nothing to change the tension in the head. Will be immediately returning.

Great when new, after about a year and a half it slips.

Loved this when it was new, but after about a year and a half it started slipping; now to the point it is unusable. You can get a much more durable head for half the money. So far, no response from Manfrotto help desk.

question

I am wondering if the Kirk L bracket:http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/747362-REG/Kirk_BL_D7000_BL_D7000_L_Bracket_for_Nikon.htmlWill work with the ball head? If not what options are there available

No. You would not be able to connect an Arca-Swiss type plate to your Manfrotto Quick Release. You will be able to use this Manfrotto L bracket instead:Manfrotto Q2 L BracketB&H # MAQ2LB ? Mfr # MS050M4-Q2This product will fit any tripod head that uses a 200PL plate. This includes the Manfrotto 324RC2

question

Will this pistol grip fit on an Induro AKB0 tripod? The tripod has a smaller attachment than the Manfrotto tripods, so I'm thinking they may not go together.
Asked by: Janet
I started serious photography in 1995, back then you had to be resourceful, I'd say go to a hardware store that cuts, threads steel pipes. This type of hardware store will have on hand very small inserts that may act as go-betweens to allow a self modification from 1/4 to your specific need. I hope that I helped you on this endeavor, photography can be like cutting, threading steel pipes, your not sure what your doing, but you're pretty sure your going to like it...

Hi, I will use it with my GH5 to shoot videos but only in my hard trips (traveling). In your opinion is it good for video or do I have to look for another head? I need a very light head. THANKS
Asked by: Alvaro
I love the head, but I have never used video before.

question

Will this 324RC2 Joystick Head attach to a Manfrotto MT190X3 Aluminum Tripod? Thanks.
Asked by: Sonja
Sonja H, These products have always fit together for me and I have about seven heads and three tripods sitting in the closet, all Manfrotto! Note that there are compatible Manfrotto plates that fit on the top of the head that will hold your camera a bit more steadily if the one that comes with the head doesn't do the job. (This is largely a matter of the weight of the camera and lens together.) Enjoy your new purchases! Adrian
