The Joby Ballhead X allows creative camera positioning when mounted to your Gorillapod Focus. It is portable (only 9.3 oz, 262 g), compact (only 3.3", 83mm tall) and will support your equipment weighing up to 11.1 lb (5 kg). A unique feature of this device is its universal "x-shaped" mounting plate which connects to your camera and easily slides on and off the ballhead.

The Ballhead X is equipped with durable adjustment knobs which allow you to rotate your camera smoothly with full 360° panning and up to 90° tilts. Even though this ballhead is optimized for the Gorillapod Focus, it is also compatible with most tripods since it can accommodate both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threads. Additionally its durable aluminum construction has an all-black finish which minimizes reflectivity and gives it a professional look.

The Joby Ballhead X allows full 360-degree panning and 90-degree tilt allow you to position your camera equipment at virtually any angle and capture portrait or landscape shots with ease.
Its incredibly lightweight, compact, and portable form factor makes it the ideal ballhead for the photographer on-the-go. Throw one in your backpack or gear bag to archive your next adventure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little ballhead So I bought this based on watching Gary Fong using them with Manfrotto nano stands to mount speedlites. If you put a standard speedite on a stand then you may have the ability to tilt the head, but it will be limited to the specific stops on that particular gun. If you mount this bullhead on the stand then put the flashgun on top, then you have one large easy to use screw wheel to quickly enable any angle to be set (also limiting wear on the flashgun head tilt). I'm sure there are other's like it, but these are very solid and feel exceptionally well built and the quick release plate allows you to mount and unmount speedlites very quickly. I guess you could put a camera on it too...;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good with Peak Design's Capture Clip Sys Nice quality and overall smooth feel. This is my first ball head unit for any tripod so I'm very happy with the quality. I love Joby tripods - I had the GP2, and now the GP3 (aka SLR Zoom) and Focus. I mainly bought this because with Peak Design's Capture Camera Clip system that uses the arca-swiss system, I wanted the ability to quickly remove my camera from my belt or backpack's strap and place directly onto this ballhead unit fast without needing to take off the plate first. It's not quite as slick as the locking system on Capture, but once on the ballhead x, you turn a knob to fully grasp it tight. Done, fast and almost easy. This ballhead x unit works on the GP3 (SLR Zoom) and the awesome strudy Focus tripod. If interested in the Focus, buy the bundle to save a bit of cash. I use this with my Sony NEX-5 camera with various sony lens and mf lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it, use it all the time I teach photography in places like Antarctica where you jump on a zodiac, get smashed by waves on the way into a beach then have a limited time in a cold area to shoot incredible wildlife and landscapes. I had a full Manfrotto carbon setup which is great but I found it very bulky in that environment. The Joby Ballhead X is a wonderful substitute. No it can't do a lot of what my big tripod can do but I found that I ended up taking my Joby all the time. Time-lapse, slow shutter speed, all those things are no problem. As for height, you find yourself putting the Joby in the strangest of places to get height! Not good for a big lens but perfect for primes. I shoot with Nikon, mainly D4 and D800 bodies. This, a 50mm 1.4 and you are very light and shooting very well. Well done Joby

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value I bought this for travel. It's compact and adequately strong to hold a 5D2 and 70-200/4 easily. It's difficult to tighten the camera quick-release plate enough to keep the camera from shifting slowly in portrait mode, but perhaps this problem will go away as the plate's rubber cushion compresses with use. I mounted the head on a Manfrotto column and found that tightening the three set screws distorts the head to the point that rotation of the head is impaired, so I don't use the set screws. Given the low price of this head, its light weight and adequate functionality, I can live with these minor problems for travel use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap ball head for Gorillapod Focus better than expected quality, will last for years to come, simple and well-made above average metal+plastic tightening parts, attaching to camera with firm grip. I am happy to have it on top of Gorillapod Focus so you can achievechallenging/ odd angles. because the Gorillapod can be attached to solid bars or pipes you may need this to get your camera-balance to capture right angles you need. held my 5D with zoom lense 12-105 without losing grip. Good small range of motions so it doen't bother things around the range, once the ball is lose, just move your camera and then quick twist the grip to lock it in place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential for use with the gorillapod, works elsewhere, too When I had a headless gorillapod, I was extremely limited in the framing options for photography. I had to find the exact right tree branch, and if I couldn't get the right shot (say, the stationary object lent itself to holding the camera in portrait orientation when the subject demanded a landscape orientation), I ended up not taking the shot at all. With the Ballhead X, that's no longer an issue. As long as there's a place to stick the gorillapod, I can orient the camera however I want. The ballhead is easy to use, like most ballheads. One know tightens the tension on the ball; a separate, smaller knob controls rotation for panoramas. The quick-release mechanism is arca-compatible, so one plate works for a lot of gear. I use a Peak Design Capture plate on my camera with this ballhead, and it fits nicely. The Ballhead uses all standard threading, so you could get buy with this ballhead on a full grown tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must-have for your GorillaPod The Ballhead X is very comfortable to use and allows you to quickly change your point of view before a shot. The product remains solid, reliable and very enjoyable to use. I just notice that the ballhead (like the articulations of the GorillaPod) "sticks" to its sheath when it has stayed in the same position for a while. In that case, you may need to force the ballhead to move, but nothing damaging to deplore so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Ballhead for Gorillapod I use this all of the time on a joby focus gorillapod instead of a full size tripod. The ballhead works great, very solid construction. If you buy the ballhead and tripod separate they both come with an adapter screw, you need to take one of them off so they will go together flush. It took me a while to figure this out. The mounting plate fits snug and doesn't add a lot to the camera so I just leave it on all of the time. Great product!! Only thing I would have liked is a level to help level the tripod.
