Polk Audio SURROUNDBAR 50 Overview

We can understand if you're a little skeptical that a single sound bar placed below your HDTV or attached to a wall can provide a true surround sound experience. But that's exactly what the Polk Audio SurroundBar 50 Speaker System does. Its technology is so advanced it's patented (US Patent #6937737). It's called Stereo Dimensional Array.

Within the Soundbar 50 are nine 3.5 inch drivers that provide true five channel sound. You can add an optional subwoofer if you'd like, for a total 5.1 channel experience.

So how does SDA work? The Front SDA Stage Array adds two additional drivers to the front left and right channels to create a much wider sound field that goes far beyond the edges of the speaker. Meanwhile, The Rear SDA Surround Sound is where that patented technology really works its magic. It can project sound 360 degrees all the way around you.

You don't need rear speakers to enjoy a true surround sound experience. The Polk SurroundBar 50 Speaker System proves it.

Front SDA Stage Array
Front SDA Stage Array adds SDA Technology to the front left and right channels of the SurroundBar 50. What this means is two additional SDA drivers are added to the front stereo channels, projecting the sound far beyond the physical confines of the speaker. The result is a much wider sound stage that does not stop at the edges of the speaker bar, integrating seamlessly with rear SDA channels for 360 degree surround sound. Perfect for complementing your widescreen TV's big picture is big sound. Audio sounds like its coming from all around you. In many cases the Front Stage Array alone even works better than a conventional five channel speaker system.
Rear SDA Surround Sound
Rear SDA is the magic behind SurroundBar's all enveloping surround sound. By applying patented SDA Technology to the surround channels of SurroundBar 50, it can project surround sound all the way around you. Rear SDA provides the 360 degree wrap around surround sound. Competing products try to bounce sound off of surrounding surfaces for the surround effect. This is great in theory if you have a perfectly symmetrical room with perfect acoustics, place the speaker and TV in the perfect position and sit in the correct position. Otherwise, the surround effect is diminished. With Polk's patented SDA Surround technology, the result is 360 degree surround sound, without rear speakers, without rear walls or special room placement.
Small, Neat Color-Coded Binding Post Set Makes Wiring to Your Amp a Snap
In the center rear of the Soundbar 50 is a single line of color coded binding posts for each channel. A 25 foot long (talk about overkill—you'll probably need only a foot or two!) color-coded and labeled wire harness. And remember, you don't have to string wires to the back of the room so setting up your SurroundBar 50 is especially easy.

We don't normally consider a warranty a feature but we felt we just had to draw your attention to Polk's unusually long warranty. It says a great deal about how much confidence they have in their home audio products.
