Celestron 114LCM overview

  • 1Description

With the largest aperture in the LCM-series of starter scopes, the Celestron 114LCM 114mm f/9 Computerized GoTo Reflector Telescope features a 114mm diameter parabolic primary mirror that is coated with highly-reflective aluminum to allow for detailed observation of the Moon and planets, with the ability to reach outside our solar system and view binary stars, clusters, galaxies, and nebulae. This complete observation platform includes a motorized fork mount, a computer controller, two eyepieces, and a red-dot finderscope.

The brain of the 114LCM is the venerable NexStar+ controller. Equipped with a database of over 4000 objects, with the ability for users to program up to 99 of their own objects, the controller is a feature-rich GoTo system with multiple alignment aids including the Sky Align system. Simply enter in the day, time, and coordinates where the scope is set up, and the Sky Align algorithms will go to where three prominent objects should be in the sky. Simply confirm each one is in the center of the eyepiece and the scope is aligned with the GoTo system orientated. Don't know what to view? Use the Sky or Constellation Tours to see the best objects overhead, or in your favorite constellation.

    Celestron 114LCM reviews

114LCM 114mm f/9 Computerized GoTo Reflector Telescope is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Entry Level Scope I use the scope for viewing moon, planets and stars. It is basic but good for a learner. Care must be taken to align well or you'll be a bit out on tours and automatically finding planets and stars. The remote features are good and fairly easy to master. The telescope is designed around mainly automatic control through the remote as opposed to manual use. It is good for seeing planets and I saw Jupiter and four of it's moons on my first night. Great for looking at the moon. I think it was pretty good value for money. I would however like a better spotting scope as this is the weakest link in my view.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great way to see the stars! This is the first telescope Ive ever bought and it is just great! Quite easy to deploy and use. I can perfectly see the craters and the channels on the moon with astonishing detail. I can also have a perfectly clear view of Jupiter and her moons. The motorized mount is extremly helpful, so you dont have to constantly correct your position every minute. Ive also used it to take pictures of the moon and other planets with a camera attachment, but this is a bit more complicated as it requires a lot of practice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Telescope!!! We fired this up as soon as we opened it and set it up. Very pleased with the telescope! images are very clear. There is a learning curve on how to adjust it. I definitely suggest getting the AC to DC power adapter, we used the batteries and they died after about an hour of use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice starter This telescope is fairly easy to set up and use, and it gives quite nice magnification. I bought it for my 9 year old daughter and she is very happy with it. Light, easy to use and enjoyable. The alignment process has its learning curve, but it is straight forward once you get the hang of it. Some comments on what I thought can be improved: The compartment that contains the batteries is made of very stiff plastic and locks with a latch that I thought could be made to fit better. The mounting mechanism that locks the cylindrical part which harbours the optical lenses to the tripod is very simple but also it can be insecure if you don't pay close attention. It is stabilized only by one screw that holds the sliding parts together. If the screw is not 100% tight or you don't pay attention to the locking parts when tightening the screw you might drop the optical (cylindrical) part. It almost happened with me when I mounted the telescope for the first time. Another thing that I thought is lacking with this telescope is a carrying bag, especially when most of your observations are outdoors. It would have been great to have a padded shoulder bag at least for the sensitive optical part of the telescope to securely carry it around and store it. Over all I think it is a good product for the price, and it is a good starter especially for kids.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Telescope at a fair price. I purchased this for my 13 year olds birthday and found it to be challanging to setup and use. This is a new experiance for me and somewhat confusing. Not really as simple as the instructions say. It arrived damaged because it is mainly constructed out of plastic. The mirror was good so I expoxied the viewfinder back on to avoid the hassle of a return. Works great now. I gave it 4 stars due to the poor shipping container. It works as the describtion states. My child really likes it.
