Shure A15HP Overview

The Shure In-Line Hi-Pass Filter rolls off low-audio frequencies to reduce 60 Hz electrical hum and low-frequency-wind-, air-conditioner-, stand-, and floor-transmitted low-frequency vibrations.

When loaded with a low-impedance microphone input (800 ohms or more), the roll-off is 12 dB per octave below 100 Hz. When loaded with 150 ohms, the roll-off is 3 dB at 100 Hz. The output is flat above the roll-off point (with a maximum loss of 0.5 dB at 1 kHz).

Provides low-end roll-off of 12 dB per octave below 100 Hz
Reduces unwanted low end rumble in microphone signals.
Slender, in-line XLR (F) to XLR (M) configuration
Requires use of balanced signals

Shure A15HP Reviews

Colors the sound significantly

I bought this to filter out low frequency rumble during Source Connect sessions in my voiceover studio. It does a great job of that, BUT...it also changes the sound of both of my large diaphragm condenser mics significantly. Although it cuts the subsonic bass, it boosts the mid bass and makes my voice sound tubby and boomy. It also rolls off the highs. In other words, it's not flat like the frequency response diagram indicates. It might work great in a live situation with a dynamic mic, but it's not for someone who wants uncolored sound in a recording studio.

Does a good job

I needed to cut out some low frequencies in my audio recordings, and not have to do it in post all the time. This helps a bit, but not to the degree I was hoping.

Does this XLR barrel adapter block Phantom power (48v)? I tried a different brand and it only worked on mics that did not need phantom power.
Asked by: Brian
No, the Shure A15HP does not block phantom power and it does allow phantom power to pass through so it can be used with condenser microphones as well as dynamic microphones.

Does this adapter color the sound at all? How transparent is it? Thanks.
Asked by: DNN
It should not color the sound. Customer reviews mention that it is clean and does not compromise the sound. It is an effective tool for reducing unwanted low frequencies that create noise in the signal.
