We don't like to pigeonhole products by saying that this model is for business and that model is for home use and so on. We don't know what will catch your eye and we're convinced products we thought of as business tools are happily working away in somebody's home and vice versa.
Then there's the Optoma TX762 3-D DLP Projector. It's got a lot to like as a home theater projector. With 4000 lumens of light output at a 3000:1 contrast ratio it'll create sharp, vivid images in the brightest of rooms (although it's always better to turn down the lights.)
It's got an HDMI input so Blu-ray discs and high definition TV shows will stay in full digital audio and video from their source to the TX762. And it can run the gamut of 720p, 1080i and 1080p HD signals.
If you're one of our many international customers or you just travel overseas a lot you'll be happy to know your TX762's international credentials are impeccable. It handles video signals in the NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL B, D, G, H, I, M, N and SECAM B, D, G, K, K1, L variations. It's got a 100 – 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz auto switching power supply. And its OSD (on-screen display) offers you a choice of 23 languages.
So you're wondering. How could this not be the perfect home projector? The listing even says it does 3-D! Well that's what we need to talk about. Your TX762 will definitely project in 3-D. The usual provisos apply: Your TV has to be 3-D compatible; you have to get compatible glasses and your own 3-D programming.
But your TX762 will not project 3-D HDTV shows or 3-D Blu-ray discs in 3-D.
But what other kind of 3-D is there, you ask. Lots, all developed for the educational and corporate markets—lessons on almost every subject and 3-D design, modeling and visualization programs, all developed for the PC and Mac.
So you see, your TX762 really is a fine home projector, as long as you don't care about 3-D TV and 3-D Blu-ray discs. And right now a lot of people don't care about 3-D. Only the high-end TVs can do 3-D; 3-D images bother some people after prolonged viewing and you may have other things you'd rather spend your money on. (But don't tell the kids 3-D games should work just fine on the TX762.)
We feel a lot better now that you know all the facts. The TX762 has other great business and education-oriented features. Its remote control has a laser pointer built-in and if you connect the included USB cable to your computer, the remote can even work as a wireless mouse.
The TX762 also has an RJ45 (Ethernet) port and its own built-in web pages for remote management. And you can lock the control panel so only the remote control will work the projector plus there's physical security too. You can lock it down with a Kensington lock or a steel cable threaded through its security bar. (Both lock and cable are available separately.)
You know, come to think of it, if you're not a 3-D HDTV and 3-D Blu-ray fan, the Optoma TX762 3-D DLP Projector is a fine home theater projector in addition to being great for the business and educational markets. That's why we don't like to pigeonhole products.
