Oben RP-10 Reviews

Great fit

What can I say about a quick release plate? I have two of Oben's smaller aluminum tripods with ball heads that I use when size and weight are important as opposed to my Gitzo/RRS giant. These plates fit my mounting holes on camera and on my Acra-Swiss style plates tightly and lock tightly into the Oben ball head. Just note that there are different size Oben heads requiring different plates but they make it fairly easy to find the ones you are looking for. I ordered two because you can never have too many!

Prefect fit

Purchased this replacement for my camera tripod and it fit perfectly snug and secure. It also arrived early despite Covid-19 pandemic. I'm very happy with my purchase.

What is the difference between Oben RP-10 and RP-20? ... Why would I choose one or the other?
Asked by: Joseph W.
The difference between the Oben RP-10 Quick Release Plate and the RP-20 is the physical size of the plate. You need to choose the one listed as compatible with your particular tripod head. They are not compatible with the same tripod heads.

question

What are the actual dimensions of this mount? Under specs it say 3.0 x 2.4 x 0.5 which I assume must be the packaging size based on the picture and the relative size of the mounting screw. I am looking for a very small mounting system with quick release to use on a hiking pole as a tripod. I want as small as possible for both the mount that will stay screwed on to the bottom of the point and shoot camera (sony Rx 100M3) and the female receptacle portion of the mount that will screw on to the top of the hiking pole.
Asked by: Timothy H.
Hi Tim,The lower section of the base (largest dimension for the RP-10) measures 1.55 square. It measures 0.46 thick. The thickness measurement includes the flexible non-marring pad that is attached. Please note these measurements apply only to the RP-10 trapezoid shown in the picture, not the associated latching base.

question

Can you use the D-ring to attach a strap to carry the camera/lens? I can't find anywhere that the D-ring was designed to take that sort of load (in my case, around 8lbs). Yet I did see someone that was using the D-ring for a carry strap attachment point.
Asked by: Kathy G.
B & H sent your inquiry to me as I had purchased RP-10 quick release plate. I have never thought (or heard of anyone using the D ring on the plate as a carry strap attachment. I wouldn't risk it as I find the plates (various brands) work loose. If I wanted to carry my camera that way I would use something like a cross body sling strap they have a special connection that screws into the camera. There are a few different brands and looking at B&H web page the 'Joby Pro Sling Strap' takes a DSLR with lens. I believe there is a German brand that is also good.

Would it hold a heavy camera like the canon 5d mark iv?
Asked by: Anonymous
I would not suggest that. Good for me d90 but I would go with a bigger quick release
