Quantum Instruments Turbo 3 overview

  • 1Description

For a portable power source for your speedlights, use the Turbo 3 Rechargeable Battery (US / Canada / Japan Plug) from Quantum Instruments. This battery works with most shoe-mount and handle-mount flashes, including all Quantum Qflash, T-series, and Trio/Pilot portable flashes. The Turbo 3 has the capacity to provide 1050 full-power flashes for shoe-mount speedlights and 750 flashes for handle-mount units.

The product offers two outlets so you can simultaneously power a digital camera and a flash, or two flashes. Cables are secured to the battery via locking sockets so you don't have to worry about a cable falling out while you are in the middle of shooting. Compatible cables for Nikon, Canon, and Qflash Trio are available and sold separately.

The Turbo 3 is equipped with four LED status indicators for checking how much power you have left. Recycling times vary from 1 to 1.9 seconds, and it takes about three hours to fully charge the unit with the included battery charger. The product weighs only 2 lb and can be carried around easily with the included belt clip.

Features
  • NiMH batteries used for quick recycling
  • Non-included locking flash cables for Nikon, Canon, and Qflash TRIO can be secured with the locking sockets of the Turbo 3
  • Comes with a belt clip, and has fittings for an optional shoulder strap
  • Two outlets for simultaneously powering a digital camera and a flash, or two flashes
  • The internal battery can be replaced by Quantum Instruments at a nominal cost if desired
  • To check the Turbo 3 capacity when it is not connected, press the ON button until the LED display comes on. The gauge will automatically turn off after use

    Quantum Instruments Turbo 3 reviews

Turbo 3 Rechargeable Battery (US / Canada / Japan Plug) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 98.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best power source EVER! This Turbo 3 has been on my wishlist ever since it came out. Now my dream has come true. I finally upgraded my whole system and made sure to leave room in the budget for the Turbo 3. It simply lasts for a whole red carpet shoot with no blank frames. It is small and lightweight. It's the best powersource I've ever used and looks great hanging from my belt. In the photography world, it could be considered among other things a great fashion statement. LOL All kidding aside, Quantum makes some of the best pro equipment. They outdid themselves with this high capacity battery. It's pricey but well worth it. In this case, you really get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PHENOMINAL This machine is the absolute TRUTH! Purchased last week and shot my first wedding with it last night using my nikon D700 and Sb-900 during an outdoor night time ceremony. Shot at 1/1 -1/2 power all night and flash fired every single time for no other reason than because I said so! Due to the late start time, I was only there for 6 hours, but got off 623 shots. Had to be careful not to overheat the flash. Pack is still 3/4 full. I put it on my belt and hardly noticed it all night. It is a lot lighter and a lot less cumbersome than it looks. If you have never had the luxury of shooting f/8 @ 125 inside a dark reception hall, you are letting the best in life pass you by. This battery pack will change your life! Worth every dime!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wouldn't be without them Of course not not exactly light weight! After possibly 100,000 speed light charges each, my 3 units continue to operate as new. Highly recommended. Shoot all day long - bliss. By the way, most of my assignments require me to fly to locations. Baggage handlers ARE very rough virtually anywhere. My units have coped with this - suitably packed in a Pelican case with the Canon 600EX-RTs, stands, etc etc

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Power Source!!! Hello Friends, If you shoot Pro, Semi Pro, or just a lot and need portable power. This along with all Quantum Products is the answer. I have had one Quantum battery for 15 years and it have been re-celled, but it is still in my bag, and used often.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never misses a shot I use this pack with the Nikon SB-900 and I couldn't be happier with it. Last used it a few days ago at an event that lasted about 6 hours; I was shooting all night, and never missed one shot due to the flash not firing. Blindingly fast recycle time, only 1 second, even on full power. And at about half power it can do a decent number of rapid fires. It's got some good weight to it, which I like, because it feels solid, and I'm not scared of breaking it, but still light enough you don't really notice it's there. Wire connections are strong, and the shoulder strap is very nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hot as can be! The Turbo 3 is about the fastest battery i've used and most dependable. It is lightweight and is clamped onto my light stand for easy mobility. I use two T5R for off camera lighting on all of my events as well as location head shots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have two of these now I bought one of these Turbo 3 to power my Quantum Trio Flash about 8 months ago and have used it on at least 30 weddings and 40-50 other shoots, generally with my Canon Mark Ds Mark IV. On a wedding is when I can really challenge this battery and almost every time it gets me through the ENTIRE day! I shoot it on QTTL at about -1 or -2 and I get so many shots out of this thing so I bought another one now for one of my other photographers. I have the slim just as a backup. I shoot weddings in South Florida and Cincinnati, the difference in weather conditions haven't seen a difference in performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised I use q-flashes for weddings, and many reception sites are so dark they require off camera lighting. I have used the turbo, turbo 2x2, and now the 3. The turbo 3 has the power reserves I need. The last wedding I shot, we had 2 photographers using the same lights, and we got away with a few thousand lighted shots. We still had half a charge left on the turbo-3, while we completely drained a 2x2 (they just happened to be set at the same power output).
